H I P L O K D The original Hiplok took everything that is good about a chain lock, and made it so much easier and more convenient to carry. We have taken the same approach to the design of a mini D lock (or U lock if you prefer ) and the result is the Hiplok D. The "D" allows you to carry a mini lock in a multitude of ways due to its unique, patent pending clip system. It has been designed from the ground up to be used in the way that so many people use their mini locks while dramatically improving the comfort, flexibility and carrying options. It can be carried with ease and total stability on a belt, a bag strap, or in a pocket meaning it is always at hand for quick access and locking. Hiplok D brings together high strength, considered ergonomics and great functionality in a slim and compact package. CLIP + RIDE
With Hiplok’s integrated CLIP+RIDE system, the compact Hiplok D clips on to belts and bag straps, making it super easy to carry a tough D-lock. And you’ll love the optimised weight and rubberised shackle which prevents frame scratch on lock up.
Designed specifically to minimise what tools can attack the lock, but perfect for the majority of urban bike frames and street furniture, our D lock is compact but not small on security.
DESIGNED FOR RIDING
Hiplok locks are engineered using the highest quality materials and ergonomically designed to compliment your ride. Backed by coded, replaceable keys and our hardware replacement scheme you can worry less and ride more.
Sophisticated technology makes our D lock perfect for high security locking situations. A 13mm hardened steel shackle complete with double dead lock technology make a robust combination, completely housed in a rubber compound to protect your bike.

As others have said, it's pretty small. The maximum diameter of whatever you're locking it to is 65 mm, but that doesn't leave a lot of room for the bike tube, especially if you have a fat aluminium or carbon frame. It works best with a small-diameter bike rack at the same height as your top tube, or perhaps a vertical steel bar – a fence support, say – to which you can lock your chainstay and rear wheel. It doesn't work well with street signs or parking meters.
I was surprised at the weight: it seems heavier than my ancient Citadel D-lock, which has a much bigger span. But assuming that means more steel in the right places, I'm not complaining. The keys (3) are also fairly massive.
It is quite heavy so would never actually clip it to a belt or something like in the photos, I've done it for short trips but over any amount of time it would get annoying.
The shackle is short so I can't get the back wheel and the frame in it together most of the time. Not a big issue as I use a little secondary lock for wheels.
The keys are nice and crisp even if they are massive
I would say it's useful for securely locking your frame to something for quick stops, as unfortunately it's not big enough to secure a frame and rear wheel to anything useful, unless you have an incredibly thin frame and rear wheel. I suppose you could add a 4ft security cable to tether the wheels, but then you would have to carry that as well, or carry two of these maybe?
Recommended for it's intended purpose, just don't try to use it as a single lock solution for long term security in a crime ridden neighbourhood.
