This was an exciting read. However I enjoy my novels with fewer homicidal maniacs. I wonder how a woman, even one belonging to the highest levels of society, could have behaved in such a way without challenge. Someone should have pointed out that she would achieve nothing beyond creating further misery, by behaving in such an autocratic way. Her personality was more suited to renaissance Italy than nineteenth century England. I thought that governess heroine was old beyond her years. She too was quite autocratic and gave out little homilies on child-rearing. I doubt whether that would have been tolerated in any normal household. The conversion of her charges from little savages to pattern-cards of good behaviour occurred in a miraculously short space of time .

This was ok, but I didn't love it. For a start, I was put off by Glee's poor behaviour. She was extremely manipulative and prepared to do anything simply to get what she wanted. It did make it very hard to like her. Gregory/Blanks was too cold to be a good hero. I didn't like each half of the couple, and I disliked them together.
The book was ok. After all, I did finish reading it. It just didn't impress me enough to be interested in any more.
Glee Pembroke had at nineteen received more than eight marriage proposals, unfortunately none of them were from Gregory Blankenship her brother's best friend. Glee has known Gregory all of her life and had loved him for most of it, but Gregory thinks of Glee as his best friends little sister. Gregory Blankenship has never had the slightest intention of getting married but now with the death of his Father and the terms of the will dictating that if Gregory is not married by his twenty fifth birthday then the entire estate will go to his younger brother. Gregorys twenty fifth birthday is only six weeks away. Glee manages to discover this latest bit of news and proposes a marriage of convenience to Gregory but he will not hear of it. Desperate and not wanting the object of her love to marry anyone else Glee manages to make it look as if he as compromised her, Glee is ecstatic but,Gregory is furious. To try to smooth things over Glee promises she will be more like a best friend, and he can carry on with all of his usual pursuits including keeping his mistress. Secretly she intends to make him fall in love with her. This is another entertaining and amusing read from this author. The scrapes that Glee gets herself into are by turn humorous, and at other times dangerous. Poor Gregory's life is turned upside down by his wife's behaviour, she is on first name terms with his close friends insisting she is one of the "bloods" and encourages them in their schoolboy pranks. The story is well paced and balanced the characters are very believable and not all fussy as in some regency romances. A great addition to the series.
Gregory marries his friends younger sister to be able to collect his inheritance. She offers, he refuses, so Glee makes sure she is compromised . They marry, and as Glee has always loved and worshipped him from afar, sets about making him fall in love with her, with sometimes disastrous results. Very enjoyable.

Story is good but so many times in this and others in series Bolen uses poor grammar and just wrong words in context. Brings me to a shuddering halt. I started adding notes in Kindle but there are SO many that I gave up. I'm persevering but no longer able to immerse myself in the story. It's turned into a chore.
