From the Publisher
Hugh Johnson is the world's pre-eminent writer on wine. First published in 1977, his Pocket Wine Book sells hundreds of thousands of copies a year. His winning formula of insight, critical appraisal of the world of wine, plus valuable vintage news and wine recommendations has been often-imitated but never bettered. With the publication of his first book, Wine, Johnson established himself at the age of twenty-seven as the most refreshing and authoritative voice on the subject. During the past four decades he has written books that have become landmarks on the subject, including his classic The World Atlas of Wine, co-authored with Jancis Robinson, his Wine Companion, first published in 2003, The Story of Wine and Hugh Johnson on Wine. In his spare time he writes about gardening from his home in London.

Annual wine Update
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 November 2020Verified Purchase
I buy this every year for my son and husband as a stocking filler. This the go to updated guide to world wine in a compact yet comprehensive format. This has been bought for many years and Hugh Johnson is still a giant among wine experts and critics. A good buy which is not too ridiculously priced.

Missing information
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 February 2021Verified Purchase
I already had the 2019 guide but was aware that the changes would be incremental for the 2021 guide. I was not expecting wholesale changes. However I was extremely disappointed that some of the information has disappeared - for example the 2019 guide has vintage years for many of the German wines but the 2021 has none. Why? This must be some editorial error but really makes the guide less useful. Also I still find some good wines/wine makers absent especially outside of Europe.

Not as expected so had to return. Bought as a gift for my son but wasn't illustrated or interesting enough.
