5.0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah! Best Baby Monitor

Dreams do come true! Infant Optics you’ve won me back! I’ve used the original DXR-8 for the last 5 years for my girls but wanted to find something with updates for baby #3. I’ve been on the hunt for 2 months for another non-WiFi monitor and tried Eufy and VAVA both of which had better picture than the old Infant Optics, but I missed so many features of the original DXR-8...until I came across the PRO! Literally jumping for joy!! The new picture is so CLEAR! Love the 5” screen! And it has features I was missing on the Eufy and VAVA.

-Great night Vision!
-Volume buttons on top of monitor (now there’s even a brightness adjustment button too!)
-Volume indicator lights on the side, my favorite thing for when screen is in sleep mode, but now you can even adjust the brightness of these lights or turn them off
-Low battery Alert function has different sound and volume options (I like that it will continue to alert you until you plug it in. The Eufy and VAVA would only alert you once before it died)
-pretty much all the same great features of the old version, but the PRO is all that on steroids! We also purchased the add on camera.
Perfect Non-WiFi monitor!!

*Edit of review after 3 months*

The battery lasts four hours, tops. I unplug it when I wake up at 6am and by 10am it's giving the low battery signal. So I basically have chargers for it all around the house, for every room 🙄😒

We had the MoonyBaby monitor and camera for two years now and loved it. My daughter is getting pretty close to climbing out of her crib and so I was on the hunt for a camera and monitor that could pan and rotate.

Night vision: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The night vision is great. Very clear, I can see my daughter's chest rising and falling, it's that crisp.

Picture quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Day vision is just as good as night vision. The colors are bright and clear. Pretty awesome.

Zoom: ⭐
Okay, the zoom is pretty terrible. I never used zoom with the MoonyBaby and I don't think I'll ever use it with the DXR-8 PRO. But it's not the greatest. Nothing gets clearer, in fact the pixels get even blurrier.

ANR: ⭐⭐⭐
The Active Noise Reduction is great, when it works. My daughter has a LectroFan sound machine in her room, so I'm aware of the hit-and-miss that the ANR has with those. And actually, it works. Unless I turn the screen off, then the ANR just shuts off. I have to turn the screen back on to turn ANR back on, but it'll only shut off if I turn off the screen. So, like, what's the point.
I'm not super offended by this, though. I got used to the white noise coming through the MoonyBaby so I'm fine with it with the DXR-8 PRO. But it's definitely a bit of false advertising, unless my monitor is just defective 🤷‍♀️

Sound: ⭐⭐⭐
The speaker is tinny sounding. Our MoonyBaby ($80) had a clear speaker, so I expected just as much OR BETTER from this monitor ($200). Nope. Tinny and thin sounding. I don't care about the delay, it's less than a second. But I don't dare put the volume higher than half way.

Settings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
You can adjust almost anything in this thing. °F or °C, 12 or 24 hour time (I LOVE THAT IT HAS A CLOCK), screen sleep mode, alarm timer, the fact that you can change the volume AND the tone of the low battery/out of range alarm, screen flicker mode, and so much more. Pretty impressive.

Battery life: ⭐⭐
The battery is honestly terrible. The MoonyBaby advirtised for 14 hours, but it lasted 10. So I knew that this battery would last a little less than advirtised, which is fine. But 7 hours??? 6am to 1pm. I thought I didn't charge it all the way at first. But nope. The battery just doesn't last that long. And I left the screen off when my daughter woke up in the morning and before nap time. The screen was literally only on for a total of 3 hours in that 7 🤦‍♀️

Temperature reading: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The temperature on the MoonyBaby was 10 degrees off. The temperature on the DXR-8 PRO is accurate 👌🏻

Range: ⭐⭐
DEFINITELY does not go up to 900 feet. I went 60 feet outside and had to flip up the antenna. Went another 10 feet and I'm getting the warning, out-of-range alarm.

Pixel loss: ➖⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🙃😒
We've had this monitor a total of 24 hours. Only this morning I saw pixels missing on the screen (see last picture). Kinda peeved by that. For a $200 set up, you'd imagine pixels wouldn't just shoot off. I've done nothing with this except pull out the kick stand and leave it on a counter. Disappointed.

All in all, I think the pros and cons aren't outweighed by each other. They're pretty equal. Which is kind of bad for a $200 monitor 🥴

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Features - Everything you need
Reviewed in the United States on 28 September 2020
We’ve been an infant optics user since 2014. With the addition of our 4th kiddo I researched cameras again and ultimately landed back to infant optics as it has all the features that are important to us. We love the new DXR-8 Pro.

What we love:
- it’s not WiFi... no risk of anyone with bad intentions accessing our cameras.
- pan, tilt, and zoom... I found a lot of cameras that can pan but not tilt. With active toddlers I really need that ability to look at every corner of the room. I also position the cameras so that if they wander out of the room I have visibility into the adjoining room to see where they are headed.
- great image quality with standard lens (haven’t tried others yet). I can easily see my little one breathing and the small details of fingers and toes. But it also has great detail far field such as into the next room. The pictures I’ve provided show this in both the night vision (lights off) and day vision (lights on) modes.
- night vision quality is equal to day vision.
- talk feature is excellent. We use this all the time. We even still use this as an intercom with older kids to let them know that it’s lights out time after reading.
- temperature reading is very helpful especially with our bedroom temperatures varying dramatically so we’re able to adjust clothing and bedding accordingly
- signal range is pretty good. We’re able to be in front and back yard without signal loss.
- multiple camera capable... you can add up to 4 cameras which we are certain to do over time.

We don’t use the noise reduction feature because our kids all use electronic white noise machines but it’s an awesome feature if noise machines aren’t used.

One small bonus that I appreciate is that the parent unit comes with two power cords. One standard plug and one USB. We use both so it’s great to have two come standard. Additionally the camera cords are long so you’re not limited on where to place the camera even if you’re limited on outlets.
