I am one of the contributors to this book. My own experience of seeing Hendrix "live" coincided with events of a pivotal year in my life and so I was very pleased to have the opportunity to get at least some of my feelings about it all into print. What really surprised me about the book - and I would feel this way about its content even if I had not made a contribution - is how much its anecdotal nature and first-hand accounts have managed to capture the spirit of a truly remarkable and important time in our cultural history, the like of which I am certain we will never see again.
The mostly short contributions provide vivid testimony about the experience (no pun intended) of seeing a unique talent and a musical genius. In my opinion, it also provides a fascinating window to the past, to a more innocent and less po-faced world than the one we live in today. Much more than a hagiography.
The format, too, makes it "unputdownable". Utterly absorbing and highly-recommended, even if you did not manage to witness a performance by The Man.
