Volume 1 of the PSI Files collects the earlier stories of Judge Anderson published mainly in 2000AD magazine and annuals from around 1983 to 1990. They are pretty much entirely written by 2000AD veteran Alan Grant and remain, even to this day, some of the grittiest comic book writing you'll find in a newsstand publication. Villains include the insatiable mass-murderer, Judge Death, with subject matter ranging from suicide to child abuse all given prominent airtime.
For fans of Anderson, this is an essential purchase. The format is taller than most graphic novels to emulate the dimensions of the weekly prog, so you're getting the stories pretty much as they would have been originally presented. For newbies, this is a great entry point for Anderson; although not her first appearance within the mag, per se, it does represent her first solo-appearance, and so any back story you need is all covered in full.
This is a highly recommended GN. Great stories and a variety of artwork, albeit black and white within the earlier strips. But at over 300 pages long, you're still getting a lot of bang for your buck.

I for one forgot how much I enjoyed 2000AD and will be buying more from the comic, even if the wife and grandchildren give me strange looks. Zarjazzz!!!!
