To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I would say these are the best light to medium duty work shoe I have ever had. They fit great and are super comfortable right out of the box. They lose a star and a half for the lace retention clip that is supposed to replace traditional tied laces. This piece is definitely faster but does not hold the shoe tight for long even for just walking let alone any strain that may be put to them. The other half star is for not being at all water resistant. Though they are not advertised to be so, it would be a nice add to use one of many available materials to make these at least a little water resistant. In general I like the shoe and will consider buying again when it is time. Hopefully Keen will take note of customer feedback to make some minor improvements.
The shoes fit fine enough. The padding is a little hard with almost none for the front of the feet. The whole shoe string draw system always comes loose throughout the day at work. I could have saved a lot of money by buying from a different manufacture. Personally I would not recommend these to anyone that is on there feet on hard surfaces for more than a few hours. I'm only 165 lbs, so its not really my weight. I would only be willing to buy these again if they where $50.00 or less. But for $95.00 to $130.00 that these cost I would be more willing to buy something like Red Wings.
Great shoe- fits right, not too stiff for a composite toed work shoe, but the lacing system is garbage. The laces/bungee synch system come loose every 20-30 steps, which is just annoying on a work shoe. I deliver groceries, and take between 15-20,000 steps a day, so re-tightening my shoes every two stops just ruins the plus sides of this otherwise great shoe.
Laces are junk; they are not traditional laces; the cinching device does not stay tight, I had to dismantle it and separate the device; then the laces only lasted a month. 2nd pair of keens in a year....supposed to be a heavy duty work shoe...i beat the hell out of them daily. but after 6 months of use...they wither away. Lace eyelet straps break, outer soles crack. Would be a good shoe for light duty use, not the heavy they claim
My first pair were purchased in January of 2014. I wore them every day for my wor for over a year and they held out and were very comfortable and reliable shoes. My company will pay for one pair of safety toe work shoes each year so I purchased an identical pair in February of 2015. After a little over 2 months old constant use, the upper right lace eyelet on the right shoe tore at the point where it passes through a slot in the leather upper, rendering the shoe unwearable. I am currently processing a warranty claim through the manufacturer and will update this rating when I see how that turns out. Meantime I have to find another pair of safety toe work shoes and pay for them myself as my employer one allows one pair per year.
I read on the reviews that about 80% of people said these fit as expected. I read 1 review that suggested ordering smaller because they run big. I agree that they run too big. I only gave a 3 star because while they seem very well made i only have worn them twice because I got the worst blister I've ever had on my heel from the rubbing due to them being too big. I bought some heel inserts to try to compensate for the size but it'll be a while before I try these shoes out again because I have to wait for this blister to heal and unfortunately I'm on my feet all day doing landscaping. I would strongly suggest buying a half size smaller
So I orgered what I thought was 12M as indicated on the size drop down menu but I got 12D instead. And my husband normally wears a 12M. They were huge on him on the sides. He had the laces on tight as they go with thick socks on and they were too roomy on the sides. Apparently there's no option for 12M and according to the Keen website site, 12D is their "regular" width. So no Keen for us. Back to New Balance for us.
Overall, the shoes are great. Well ventilated, very light and easy to slip on and slip off. However, inside the right shoe, there is a small bump under the insole that I can feel under my large toe, which made it uncomfortable for me to walk. It took a couple of days before I could feel the bump. It looks like there may be extra material under that area. I checked the rest of the sow and the compared it to the other shoe, no bumps anywhere else. I had to put a second insole as padding so I would not feel the bump. I assume I will feel it again once the insole is worn in.
All of the reviews I read said these were very comfortable. They are not comfortable. After wearing them for less then 4 hours my feet hurt. These are better then the boots I had be wear when I went to the construction site, but they are not the miracle shoes the reviews claimed.
Only been wearing these a few days. I wish I had noticed that the laces do not tie in a traditional way, they have that locking slider thing. Probably wouldn't have purchased if I noticed it. That being said I just took it off and tie them like normal. After doing this the laces are way short but nothing I can't live with, or replace with new laces after a while.
