Terrible song selection!
Reviewed in Canada on 22 May 2020Verified Purchase
I am giving this book two stars because the sections of care and tuning of the kalimba, musical notations etc are good. The song selection are horrible! There are lyrics about being mutilated in war, rape, all sorts of songs about your loved ones dying in prison, shipwrecks, and by murder. There are tunes about "fallen" women cheating honest men and taking their money. There are songs about the suffering of the Irish Rebellion. There are suicides, and a lament by a woman "too ugly to marry" and facing poverty.
At least to me, trying to learn a new musical instrument, it puts me off learning the notes to a song that goes:
Ye haven't an arm, you haven't a leg (repeat three times)
Ye're an armless, boneless, chickenless egg,
ye'll have to put with a bowl to beg.
Oh Johnny, I hardly knew ye.
