Kaytee Timothy Hay is hand selected to ensure the long fiber strands and proper leaf to stem ratio to support digestive health. Kaytee Timothy Hay is grown in the ideal ecological location for moisture and climate control and is then stored in a protected environment to ensure the quality and superior nutritional value are maintained. Timothy Hay is ideal for animals over 7 months of age because it is higher in fiber to support digestive health and lower in protein and calcium than alfalfa hay to support urinary health. The experts who bring you Kaytee products understand how important your pet’s health is to you. Kaytee Timothy Hay provides the nutrition your Rabbit, Guinea Pig or other small animals need and the quality you expect.

The Katee hay being sold here on Amazon is not the same quality I was getting in the pet store. This hay is being produced in Canada, and its just awful. Most of it is unusable dust and what's left is small pieces. My rabbits will eat some of it but most of it ends up getting thrown out.
The hay itself though is very dusty in comparison to Oxbow’s hay. My wife didn’t seem to be bothered by my rabbit or guinea pig until I got THIS hay, and then she suddenly has allergic reactions and can’t breathe in the living room/dining room (where they live.) I already spend $100-150/month on fresh veggies for them, another $50/month on pellets and bedding/litter, and $20/month on toys/treats. My rabbit and guinea pig cost me between $170 and $220/month before I even factor in the cost of hay.
If this hay wasn’t so dusty (it bothers me as well, the dust goes right down my throat,) I’d be super excited to have one of their needs taken care of that’s not going to cost a lot.
We have a bunny who we love dearly. And we want what's best for him. I used to think this brand satisfied that, but I'm starting to 2nd guess myself. With this last bag of Kaytee hay.. towards the bottom of the bag I found what looks like "fake hay". Which is disturbing because we feed this to our little guy. I know this may sound ridiculous but whatever it is.. it is not actual hay. It looks snd feels like hay-colored easter grass. It's reflective in the light, and feels like plastic shreds. I'm now asking myself how many times has this has happened and I just didn't notice. (Hopefully never!) I fear making this purchase again. I'm posting a picture below, but again it is hay-colored...sort of... so it might look normal to you in the pic, but it most certainly is not hay. In the pic there is a pile of actual hay you can compare it to.
I'm sorry to write this review as I've been a loyal customer since our first purchase. Hopefully this was just a one time error, and the company will look into it. I'd hate to see "somebunny" get hurt.
Original Review:: So I see a bunch of negative reviews with this KATEE hay. I don't know what other people are getting, but we are happy repeat buyers.
We are fortunate enough to have an adorable little bunny in our home. His name is Gotham. We want the best for him, like most people do for their pets. This is the brand Gotham's vet said he uses for his rabbits. This one meets all nutritional needs (as far as hay goes.. remember they need dark leafy greens too!,) and it stays fresh even when this huge 96oz bag is nearing the end. It takes Gotham about a month to eat one bag. It seems like a lot to me but he's healthy and happy.
We've tried other kinds of hay in the past, here and there, but this is the brand we started with.. even as a new little bunny. And its definitely his favorite. He will intentionally hop through me pouring the hay so that he gets showered in it. Though messy, it is quite adorable! And then he's busy for hours chomping away. With other kinds he'll get excited at first, nibbles a bit and leaves.
On another note I'll never buy a 3lb bag for 12 bucks in store ever again! That's ludicrous in comparison to the prices here. And it is always delivered quickly! i. A+ for price, shipping and product. I think it's a great deal!
I would suggest cutting the long stems into shorter pieces. My Guiana pig doesn't like it so long so i have to manually cut it myself. It's good quality green hay and I purchase this a lot at petco until I saw this on amazon. It's a good price here as compared to stores.
