Wow! Another amazing author to add to my list of new discoveries.
This novel drew me in immediately with its haunting atmosphere & characters that you could relate to & invest in. I found the banter & interrelationships between them to be quite realistic and there was honestly no members of DI Nikki Galena's team that I didn't like. Each had their own interesting story to tell.
The setting is centred around the Lincolnshire Fens & an abandoned WW2 airfield which is fraught with eerily spooky atmosphere.
DI Galena is given her first mystery when her father, who has Alzheimer's, whispers "find Eve" on his deathbed. Nikki is determined to find this "Eve" and why she was so important to him.
The main plotline begins with a young male found seriously injured at the bottom of a shaft on the Fen ...... & an extremely large stash of varied drugs. While investigating this, as well as the murder of criminal Karl Shine , the owner of the land the Fens is situated on, and three missing people, her team stumble upon something far more serious ...... a serial killer that has been operating under their noses for over a decade.
The two plotlines become entangled and Nikki and her DS, Joseph Easter, along with his estranged daughter Tamsin, rush to find the killer & solve the mystery of "Eve".
A tightly paced police thriller that is hard to put down. I can't wait to read more in the series.

Another brilliant story! I had come to the a happy place during this story where I thought that the investigation was not going to become personal for anyone on the team - wrong! This was a fascinating case set in a very interesting background. The idea of one site being used so many times over history that you can track its development through the buildings is amazing.
The effort that this perpetrator went to in order to keep everyone away from this area was admirable. If they had put that much effort into solving their own mental health issues there wouldn’t have been a story.
The personal relationship between Nikki and Joseph continues to grow. They are there for each other and support each other with no questions asked.

I bought all 4 of Joy Ellis's books based on "Crime on the Fens".. I recommend that although the four books are complete stories on their own that readers start with book one as they do have the same characters and readers will find they do now and again mention things from the previous books.. A superb series that I couldn't put down until I had read all four..I just hope that the author Joy Ellis will carry on and write more about "the Fens" and DI Nikki Galena and DS Joseph Easter and all the other police characters..

Nikki, Joseph and the gang do it again. The ending is a little fraught but it fits with the story line. And what a bomb shell at the end. Can't wait to see if Eve pops into the next book. So looking forward to reading it. Sadly I am hearing the end of e DI Galena series ... PLEASE WRITE SOME MORE ... Addicted the to the characters and story lines. I am a little bit like Cathy Bates in that Steve King book ... Make sure you keep writing! Simply perfect.

Another great read by Joy Ellis. The DI Galena stories are always a delight to read. Her characters interesting and real, people you can imagine knowing. Her ability to create and tell a crime story is outstanding. I look forward to another in this series. It really shouldn't finish here.

Ellis continues to intrigue her readers with fascinating plots which twist and turn without torturing the credibility of her characters or the readers' imagination. Nikki Galenda remains focussed and fresh, as do her faithful team. Having read the series 1 through 6 Ellis carried me through the dynamic development of her characters whom I look forward encountering again.
Well worth the read. Thank you Joy Ellis.

This was very good. However some of the books that I ordered I have not had time to read as yet. When you reside in the Abbey Nursing Home there are a lot of other activities one is expected to get involved in.

Adrenaline pumping action!

I am so pleased to find that the fourth Nikki Galena police procedural is back to Joy Ellis' normal high standards, after the disappointment (in my opinion) of the third in the series, "Hunted on the Fens".
Nikki and Joseph are as human as ever and their attempts to cope with the challenges of their respective personal circumstances (the death of Nikki's father and the unexpected visit of Joseph's estranged daughter) give lots of human interest, as does the interplay between the two characters. In some authors' hands this would come at the expense of the procedural aspects of the story but here the reader is always aware of the lines of enquiry and is allowed to accompany the police as they go about their very credible business. In addition to all this, there is plenty of excitement and danger to get your heart pumping. 5 stars all round.
Do read the Nikki Galena series in order, starting with "Crime on the Fens". You will get much more out of it, since the characters have back stories which can only fully be appreciated if you start at the beginning.

A Top Class Thriller

Joy Ellis sticks to the same main characters and environment in the DI Nikki Galena series, but deploys her prodigious creative imagination and writing skill to add new ones, which build a narrative with a jackhammer punch to enthral you from the first page to the last.
Perhaps for some there may be just a bit too much going on, like a really good but over rich meal, but for me it was well worth any mental indigestion to enjoy such good suspense storytelling.

Wow! What a truly gripping read. Joy Ellis has fast become one of my favourite crime novelists. The sub plot running through this series is absolutely intriguing both from the perspective the reader gains of the nature of crimes this team has to tackle and the way they work and play together. Additionally, there is a spark of romance bubbling away. I feel that this series would adapt fabulously to television. Killer on the Fens in particular, with several of those, hairs on the back of the neck, standing up, moments for the reader, would knock the socks off many rival dramas!

Nikki Galena's father has just died and he has asked her to find Eve. Nikki is perplexed as she has no idea who the woman is. But before she can do anything Nikki finds herself involved in a case that centres around a former RAF base on the Fens.
This really is the best book in the series so far. The story gripped me and I actually read the book in under a day I got so caught up in it. Full of twists and turns I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This story began quietly. An accident at an old airfield and a drug find! DI Nikki Galena and her DS, Joseph Easter begin to sort things out. There's a missing person, sadness for Nikki and a lovely surprise for Joseph. As the story moves on a pace, there is a hideous find and a kidnap. Plenty of suspects, the culprit I half guessed, but it wasn't too obvious this time. Loved the story, despite missing reading this in sequence. Bit out of sync but it didn't spoil the enjoyment! Brilliant "Fens" book !!
