Unfortunately, she got out of the holster by the end of our first outing too. :-( If the cat is pulling in front, the holster is very secure. When it came off, the velcro was still very firmly in place - the whole thing just came off over her head. The instructions warn against pulling when you are in front of the cat, so I had tried to stay behind throughout our outing. When you are walking a cat who is used to going in any direction she wants for the first time (or to be honest, for our cat, I would imagine at least the first 20 times) it's very difficult to stop her from manoeuvring herself behind you though! After about half an hour of near missed, our cat eventually decided to do what most cats do when they are outside - she ran over to a vehicle and sat underneath it. After 20 minutes of trying to coax her out with no success (her favourite indoor treats were completely ignored when we were outside :( ) she eventually ended up pulling backwards and it was off in seconds.
It is a great idea and shipping was extremely fast, but for the price we were really hoping that this would be the harness we could stick with. We have now just ordered the Ferplast harness for £7 on amazon and are hoping we may have more success with this.
It is awesome! Traditional harnesses have never fit quite okay, and Tchaikovsky is a master of getting out of them. This one seemed comfortable for him right when I put it on (he didn't do the usual backward walk), and he walked around meowing, business as usual. The black probably isn't the best for a shedding white monster, but eh, I'm not too mad about it.
Only slight issue may be that, although my 16lbs boy fits perfectly into the belly portion of this vest, the neck is slightly larger than I would like. Fixable with extra velcro you can purchase at any sewing or craft store.
Would highly recommend this product- a lot less stressful for both the owner and furchild.
So I’m not giving it 5 stars but it could be better for a standing up, walking around posture. I might fiddle with it and make the U you can see in the pic (where it leaves a bit of the white inside showing through) into a deeper U but it’s expensive to have to do that.
Just a thought incase someone else was wanting it for multiple purposes. I think cats hold their head out and extended when walking but tucked back and more upright when sitting.
The Velcro is stiff too. Maybe break the firmer “hook side” up into horizontal lines so it can bend along a neck more, I might try that.
It seems well made though. The stiffness might be a side effect of higher quality.
Other cat harnesses I used before all came off under similar situation. Many thanks to kitty holster. Now I enjoy letting my cat outside but without fear of losing him.
NOTE: it is VERY hot to wear during the summer months
Niko lost his buddy beginning of July (he's 18) and there was no way we were leaving him in a kennel by himself for three week. He came traveling with us, and this harness made all the difference.
I both love and hate the velcro - its picks up everything hair included, BUT.... is so much easier to put on and off and wear for him its worth the mess.
Quick ship and seller described item exactly.
Best part: it looks hilarious on my cat; it looks like he is wearing a bulletproof vest.
