Update 6/30/19: Screwdriver tip with ruler has bent under very typical usage. Tightening a screw on medical equipment - not like trying to work on rusty cars. Being sent in for warranty repair, then being sold on eBay. Too many things they left undone on the Free and finally the bent tip weighed the scales heavily against it. I was so spoiled with the Spirit I didn't realize it until compared to something inferior. The Free series is pure novelty with no substance. I'll continue opening my Spirit pliers one handed, like I have hundreds of times before, by using my leg as a point of contact.

----

There are already several reviews here and on YouTube, and I agree with parts of them all. The main consensus seems to be it's a creative new design but at a very unimpressive cost.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep the P4, so all is not bad with it. But it really took weighing of pros and cons to make the decision - and they do not make it easy for you. I come from 7 years daily use with a Victorinox Spirit XC. I also read many negative reviews of the Spirit, especially from Wave fans, but I really love it so I take reviews with a grain of salt. The Spirit is indeed a great tool, forget the haters! But after 7 years of daily use I was open to new ideas, and the Free series coincidentally just came out so here I am...
Let me say I did not like the Wave due to the tools not being able to open on the outside. That was a deal breaker for me and the main reason I went with the Spirit. Sure the Wave has a bit kit but never once did I personally wish I had it on me - when I choose this multi tool, the whole point is I need them quickly or else I'd just use my dedicated tools for the job. The tools I require daily in a multitool, in order, are 1) phillips 2) various flatheads 3) pliers 4) scissors 5) file 6) everything else about evenly except the saw, which I used maybe 2 times in the previous 7 years and the can opener - never.

You can read and watch other reviews for "facts" about this knife. I'll just summarize with my opinions here:

Pros:
Who would want this tool? A tradesman who uses a variety of screwdrivers and could benefit from quick access to them and the pliers. (I work on medical equipment in-office so this is pretty well equipped for what I do)
Home owner for everyday tasks. Casual hiker/camper. Student, warehouse worker, Mr FixIt who likes to be prepared without carrying a lot of stuff.
What I like:
One handed opening (duh)
Several sizes of screwdrivers - for most thats a negative, but for my job it works in my favor.
Pliers are awesome
I disagree with many reviews about "hot spots". They feel fine to me, but I also have callused "working" hands. I guess I could see if you have "fair" hands this is not a good tool for you.
I think the chisel tip at the end of the serrated blade will be very useful, and this rarely gets mentioned.
Sheath is better than most stock, but I plan to try the RaeGear magnetic sheath (more on that later)
New shipments include a belt clip - yay! (but NOT lanyard clip - boo!) Geez, just include them both for $140. Myself, I'm not using either.
A couple reviews say the edges are sharp - this is not my experience. They feel fine to me but perhaps it goes back to calluses.
Hopefully this will replace the Spirit and also a Spyderco "main blade'. I'm hoping the blade is adequate for daily use opening packages etc.

Cons:
Who will probably not like this tool? Woodsman. Serious prepper. Serious hiker/camper. Hard-use trades like auto mechanic, pipefitter. For you, there are likely better choices for less money.
What I don't like:
Like so many others - cost. $140. Really? Yes, I paid it voluntarily.....but.... I feel kinda icky about it.
Came dirty and greasy out of box. Again, for $140, Leatherman you MUST do better.
Blade steel. Leatherman, are you listening to almost EVERY review out there?
Only 1.2 oz heavier than my Spirit, but in-hand it sure feels A LOT chunkier. Breaking the half pound point is noticeable.
Yes the tools flop out sometimes when opening the pliers and cutting wire. Super annoying at first, but I am so biased toward wanting to like this, I've learned to block it out of my mind. I tightened the torx a little and that helped, but this should NOT be a problem, ever, with a $150 tool. Leatherman, for you, this is a real problem going forward.
Short file! Ugh. Not a deal breaker, but I often need a long file at work. A real bummer.
I appreciate the small screwdriver, but not at the expense of the awl. I really question the designer's sobriety on this one.
Right handed saw position should be a right handed serrated blade IMO! How often is a saw used? (for the intended audience)

So they get some things right, miss opportunities on others. All that being said, I'll need several weeks at work to really decide if this replaces my Spirit long term, or if the P4 is just a toy to play with.

2.0 out of 5 stars Going back to the Wave Plus

Pretty neat design but doesn't work as I had hoped. The wave plus is actually easier for my hands to operate than the P4. Just my opinion. I will make a buddy of mine a great gift. It just doesn't feel comfortable to me. And the tool release on the sides are harder for my fingers to operate than the top press release of the wave plus.

2.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this tool, I really did, but I just don’t.

As the title said I was excited to get this tool and try it out. The one handed usage is great, quality is great, it’s a leatherman for sure. What I cannot understand for the life of me is the tool choices. This tool is full of unnecessary items that are extremely redundant. I don’t need 4 different pry bars, the ruler is useless (who’s going to use a 4 in ruler?!?), the file is too small to be useful, and why put a saw and a serrated blade? Give me the interchangeable bits. Give me the interchangeable saw/file joint. If they would have put the tool set of the wave on this form factor, this would be the perfect multi tool, I would love it! The problem is that a multi tool is dependent on the tools that it gives you. It doesn’t matter if the form factor is slim or user friendly or whatever if the tools included aren’t useful, and in this case unfortunately most of them are either redundant at best and unusable at worst. That’s why I think this product deserves 2 stars. Not because it isn’t a quality product, but because it does not fulfill its intended purpose. The wave is a much better multi tool and it’s $40 less. This tool is unfortunately all flash and no value.

2.0 out of 5 stars WAY overpriced!

First of all, 1-handed operation? No.

Second, the P4 does not have spring-loaded pliers, and the pliers are difficult to deploy or use, to the point of being barely useful.

Third, the pouch is a cheap piece of junk that really does not fit.

Fourth, the scissors are spring-loaded, but only when fully deployed, and then the spring just makes the scissors more difficult to use.

Fifth, the tools are generally very difficult to deploy. Only the 4 outer tools can be deployed without deploying other tools.

Sixth, what, exactly does the cross-head driver fit? Nothing. We tested various remote controls, and all manner of electronics requiring batteries. The Leatherman Free P4 was USELESS! Very embarrassing to sit there in front of everyone at Christmas with a multi-tool that isn't good for a dang thing!

Seventh, the clip does not even work on the included pouch. Actually, the clip does not work at all. It's very hard to get it over anything, but does not hold. Completely useless!

Eighth, the bottle opener does not fit. Useless!

Ninth, the can opener does not work. It simply does not open cans.

Tenth, why bother with this piece of JUNK? Is there any tool on here that works for anything?

To put this in perspective, my son's $25 multi-tool does everything this junky Leatherman is incapable of doing, rather driving home the point of the scope of the overpriced Leatherman garbage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had the $ back, P4 tools are way to hard to open!

Don't buy this if you don't have the ultimate tool: your fingernails!
The new big breakthrough concept here is the magnetic "ketch" for holding the tools in.
It is super hard to break the tools "free" for use. I have to open the blade on the end which
is dangerous and then open the tools from the side with my fingernail. That dam magnet
thing is a disaster and will cause many of us faithful users to get injured on blades we have
open but don't need in a given usage.
Wish I could return it for the old standard Wave I had or the Wave+ model other have
mentioned.
I don't recommend you wast the more than $50 extra on this model, it's a beast to work!
And, ha, that video showing the guy flipping the tools out like a stiletto knife, right, it will
not do that no mater what, well if the magnet was taken out, maybe.
Bummer but faithful user of Leatherman tools, today so many other great brands out there!

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad design on a good tool they just don’t give you value for price!
Reviewed in the United States on 7 June 2019

I love Leatherman tool have over a dozen, but this one left me wondering if it is worthier the price. First the main blade index’s strange to me why make all the other tool flush and have it stick out to fined easier but ruins the lines of the tool. Next for the price it should have exchangeable file and saw and bit hold making it the best of both wave and surge. Final get rid of scissors and put in a real awl and make where you can really open tools with one hand thumb make all tools come out and then you have to sort to the one you want and put others back. Fix this and the tool might be worth the money as is should be priced with wingman and sidekick not the high end tools.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not at all impressed.
Reviewed in the United States on 6 August 2021

Pros: Smooth to open and close and I like the magnets. The blade design is good and the other tools are just ok.

Cons: The steel quality is very poor, knife steel is very soft and will need sharpened on the daily. The file is basically useless and who needs that many straight screwdrivers. The pocket clip catches on everything.

In conclusion the quality verses the price makes this knife not worth it. I would not recommend this for someone who actually uses a multi tool in an industrial setting. Might be great for Harry home owners but not for a tradesman.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not satisfied with the build quality. Hard to open the pliers.

I recently got the FREE P4 as a birthday gift. I have several of the earlier models, but the blades are tricky to open. The blades and tools on the P4 are much improved and easy to open and close. I would give this a solid 4 stars, but for the pliers. They are very hard to open. I attribute this to bad build quality and lack of QA. It is such a shame that an otherwise excellent product is tainted by these frustratingly stiff pliers. My old leatherman pliers all work great.
