Being a mage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially when you’ve witnessed the end of the world and the demise of all you’ve ever loved.
As a particle physicist, William Jenkins is as unsuited to survival on an alien world as any normal 30-something post-doc could be. Thankfully, he’s not alone. With an AI, magic, scientific curiosity, and, most improbably, a deity on his side, Will must come to terms with his new reality before otherworldly terrors forever extinguish the light of hope on this new world.
Meanwhile, as the forces of darkness amass to invade her home, Effni Naridia, Qaseri Ranger, and Guardian of her peoples, must face her own demons. By undertaking a trial, Effni could determine not only the fate of her city but unravel a mystery aeons in the making.
The Last Physicist features elements of progression fantasy and Gamelit and is perfect for those who enjoy stories by Andrew Rowe, Will Wight, and Andy Weir.
Warning. This novel contains questionable quantum mechanics, general relativity, and magic.
Note: This book also features profanity, vivid depictions of violence, pain, and gore, along with depictions of mental health issues (including PTSD, generalized anxiety, and depression) some listeners may find distressing.

I am hoping for a sequel. "The Archon Book 1" is definitely a promising sign there, so take your time Mr Stal. You write it, I'll read it!
*My one gripe is that the AI isn't named Joe. Unfortunately it seems that while the main character's name is Will Jenkins, this isn't a sly reference to the author who wrote under the pseudonym Murray Leinster. Among other achievements (e.g. first to imagine the Universal Translator) Leinster/Jenkins wrote "A Logic Named Joe" in 1946. That story had an AI spontaneously arising from the Internet. Of course Joe was a "logic" because back then a computer was a person who did mathematical calculations for a living. And phone calls were mediated by switchboard operators so an internet was unimaginable... unless you were William Jenkins.
I find that I feel that being this entertained for this long of a period is for as small a sum as charged leaves me feeling like I owe something to Dominic Stal (author).
Please bear with the story initially, it is slow for a little while but is laying some really good groundwork. Also people talk about the whiny main character. This character is completely believable to me as someone experienced with the difficulties those with a mental illness have to go through. He writes as though perhaps him or someone close has experienced this.
Highly recommended and I can't wait for the next one.
Yes there are a few spelling errors, no I did not report them as I did not find them disruptive to my enjoyment of what is truly an excellent story and hopefully the start of an epic arc of books.
All in all I enjoyed it, it was a different take from what I’ve read so far in the genre.
As he grows and become stronger, more action.
His will is strong
But it jumps around a lot
Following the journey of a physicist through many puddles and pitfalls, Dominic has created a multiverse that is slow to open, but when it flowers it looks beautiful and is rich in magnitude and craftsmanship.

This is the character class you always wanted to play around with if you knew it existed.
I really enjoyed reading this fresh take on Portal Fantasy and looking forward to the next book!

I cannot wait for the sequel(s).

It could only be better if there was a multipass moment, cannot stress enough that you should give it a read
