Review
The recipes are unpretentious and were immediately promoted by my family of critics into must-makes for the monthly dinner rotation, new staples for a season of chill and damp. --Sam Sifton, The New York Times
"This book is full of real charm, personality, love, and garlic. Bring on the 100 clove curry! Not to mention fire-smoked eggplant, chicken livers in cumin butter masala, and beet and feta samosas. There's so much to be inspired by." --Yotam Ottolenghi "I want to cook everything in this book." --Nigella Lawson This cookbook is the story of Sodha, her family and their journey over three generations from India to Africa to England. 'An Indian kitchen can be anywhere in the world, ' the London-based home cook and 'occasional' chef writes in her introduction. Sodha shows you how to do it with enticing recipes, colorful photographs, travel memories and a healthy dose of humor. Particularly useful are the detailed glossary of ingredients and spices, proposed menus and ideas for leftovers. --Bill Daley, Chicago Tribune --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.About the Author

Love love this book. I haven’t really found a good cookbook with Indian cuisine but now I have !! Great currys with surprising depth in flavour considering how easy they are to throw together.

I love the fact that the ingredients lists are written for westerners so there are alternatives and nothing is hard to find. I've also loved every recipe i've eaten from this book although i must admit they are starting to feel a little repetitive and i'm only about a third of the way through the curries...

This book is amazing and has transformed our cooking. We've tried the following recipes:
Lamb and mint samosas - took a little practice to get the wrapping right but very tasty and baked in the oven so they're lighter and less oily than regular samosas
Aubergine and cherry tomato curry - a winner - easy to cook and great left over dish for lunch at the office the next day - had some very jealous co-workers!
Disha's pav bhaji - amazing street food mash of spicy vegetables served on a bread roll
Slow-cooked lamb and spinach curry - oh my gosh - the lamb is so tender and delicious
King prawns with garlic and mustard seeds - a delicious snack or side dish and so simple to prepare
Salmon and spinach curry - a family favourite
Caramelised onions and jeera rice - perfectly cooked rice every time
Daily dal - we've cooked this so often it's almost become our daily dal! Great for cooking and freezing for times you're feeling lazy
Workers' curry - chana masala - delicious
Green beans with mustard seeds and ginger - a quick and easy tasty snack - recommended
Pomegranate and mint raita - takes the edge off a spicy curry!
Roasted cauliflower with cumin, tumeric and lemon - we love cauliflower and this dish is a winner!
Our other favourite India cookbook is the Prashad Indian Vegetarian Cookbook Prashad Cookbook: Indian Vegetarian Cooking - we bought this after visiting the Prashad restaurant which blew us away!

Okay so I have never written a review for anything before but I felt like for this book I need to tell everyone possible how good it is. I have always found the prospect of indian cookery (except ready main shop bought sauces) quite daunting but having visited india have always enjoyed the real food as well as the takeaways we get in this country.
I have tried a few recipes so far, coriander chicken, red pepper paneer curry, daily daal and lamb cinnamon curry as well as naan bread and chapati. I can honestly say I have shocked myself at how good they taste. definitely the tastiest curries I have every cooked, so far none of the recipes have let me down. Some things which i have always assumed to be really difficult such as making your own naan or chapati are surprisingly okay with a bit of practice and have really changed up meals from just curry and rice.
My top tip for this book is to also make the side suggestions that they mains are recommended to be served with, they really make the dish!
Overall a fantastic book which is changed the way I see and cook indian food for life!

The best curry book I have owned - ever!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 August 2017Verified Purchase
The best curry book I have owned - ever! I live in France - and after 10 years of living in Lyon, I have yet to find a half decent curry. There are so many good recipes in this book, I don't know where to start! All really easy - and no difficult to find ingredients (even in France). I have just made "Mum's Chicken Curry" - utterly delicious - thick, rich and so moorish. It is not just curry mains - there are so many other fab recipes - sides, salads, chutneys. bread etc. I also bought Meera Sodha's other book - "Fresh India". Just as good. I am about to also order a copy of this for my vegetarian daughter. These two books are really all you need to make all the most delicious curries. Mostly, I have get recipes off the interweb, but it is so nice to have these two hard cover books. Beautifully printed with loads of lovely pictures. Love all the anecdotes too - written with warmth and humour. Don't waste your time getting this on a Kindle - you need the books!

Indian food better than I ever imagined possible
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2017Verified Purchase
This is without doubt the best recipe book I’ve ever bought. Seriously! It may be my first journey into Indian cookery but each and every dish I’ve tried has been SO very tasty. The reason is that the recipes have been compiled with heart and morever very accurately transcribed. Just follow the directions to a T and I promise you will not be disappointed! If cooking for two, precisely halve the quantities of ingredients. Buy this book if you want to experience deliciously fresh flavour sensations.

I have over 100 cookbooks (after getting rid of some) and had promised myself I would not buy anymore. However could not resist this book after reading reviews and have no regrets, many delicious recipes, Chicken and Pistachio being a particular favourite with family and friends.
