This gadget doesnt cut pasta, it — these ‘blades’ are really wheels that do nothing more than score the pasta so you can cut it with a knife. It may work with other people’s recipes but for my egg noodles, this did not do the trick.
I’m hopeful it will be useful for garlic, parsley, or something else that needs to be minced. I’ll probably even try it again with my next few batches of pasta. But I guess I’m a fool like that. Maybe you’ll learn from my mistake.
No matter how hard I pushed, this basically just dented my dough. When I tried to go over the same spot again to rectify the dents, the dough tore instead. Rolled it up and cut it with a knife, which worked much better.
So far I am happy with this product. I bought it because my gluten free homemade pasta was not able to hold together in a regular pasta roller machine. I needed something that would cut even noodles quickly because using a knife was taking too long. A little concerned about the durability of the plastic spacers between the cutting disks so I hand wash it.( hence the 3 stars, if I felt I could put it in the dishwasher without the disks melting it would have been 4 stars) Just need to make sure the pasta dough is thin enough to start with and it cuts easily and evenly. I haven’t had any dough clog up the disks so it has been relatively easy to clean using a little soap and the kitchen sink sprayer hose. If you don’t want fancy shapes it is really quick to make noodles. Roll out the dough on parchment paper, run the cutter over the dough, drop the noodles in boiling water and you have fresh pasta. Will upgrade to four stars if the durability holds up and the metal disks stay sharp after at least 6 months
This thing is doubtfully stainless steel because it is so easy to bend. It is incredibly malleable and doesn't even work properly. It does a very poor job of cutting the pasta, even when it is a 1 in thickness from a pasta mill.
I don't have a pasta machine. I make ramen by scratch. But I only have a pizza cutter to cut the pasta into ramen strips. As you can imagine, making ramen is labor intensive. Not any more. I take a swipe with this noodle lattice roller and it cuts eight strips at once.
Now, I can make pasta faster than a pasta maker machine. Taking in account getting everything set up, and then having to clean dough off all of the parts, I am much faster making it by scratch.
I still use my grandma's pasta cutter, but my kids wanted one for their homes. This items is of good quality, and works as well as grandma's. The kids use it regularly, and are pleased with its performance.
