I've gone through several suction cup car mounts in the past but this one has worked the best by far. My Prius dash is textured and curved so normal suction cups never stay on for long. This Maxboost mount came with an extra plastic base plate with strong adhesive. The mount will not go anywhere once it's attached to this base plate, even going over bumps and potholes. I have a pixel XL with bulky Otterbox case. My phone fit fine on the mount and doesn't move with the extra weight. Putting phone on and off the bracket was easy. I have mine mounted on the dash so it's easy to see/control but I believe you can also mount on your windshield. Turning the phone sideways is easy and seems sturdy. Many dials to tighten the unit and change directions so it's very versatile. I'm very happy with the product and will highly recommend.
This car mount is the best mount I have ever tried. Previous ones I had would not stay on the dash long enough or used a clip to attach itself to the vents or the car charging port.
This one has a couple of methods that they provide to stick to the car. Whether its the dash or the glass.
By itself it comes with a suction cup that is already sticky, which helps in keeping the mount attached. If you have a textured dash, then this product also comes with a mounting square that affixes to your dash so the suction cup can attach to it.
The extending arm pulls your phone forward by about 2 inches which doesn't sound much on paper, but in practicality it is a world of a difference.
There is a button on the bottom right that releases the mounting arms that hug your phone. Easy release and easy to put the phone back in place.
I currently have the OnePlus 5t, and this mount can definitely hold a bigger phone. My fingerprint sensor is in the back and is NOT blocked by the mount at all. The arm grips are low enough to not block any buttons to the phone.
My only recommendation to the manufacturer would be for this mount to have the ability to swivel left to right.
As you can see in the picture, I have moved this mount to my work station and use it while working.
This is my first time using the Maxboost Extended Arm Car Mount. Ii has a few more moving parts than my old one but it is a lot more stable and firmly seated once installed and the adjustment dials properly tightened. While the installation and user instructions are clear and easy to follow I did not need them because the mount is easy to install and use. The instructions include three install options, with a mounting square glass plate that adheres to the dashboard. This is the recommended method and preferred for surfaces that are not flat. The suction cup has a plastic covering that must be removed to allow the mount to stick to the mounting plate. It is removed by simply peeling it off. I installed it above the dash which offers a clear view of he phone. It only took a few minutes to install and adjust to my liking. Once the mount is installed it is ready to go. The mount rotates 360 degrees for easy adjustment. The mount head, neck and arm each has a dial that makes for easy adjustments as well. My iphone Xs max with a heavy duty protective case, fits snugly in the mount head but I had to remove the belt clip because the mount head wasn't deep enough to accommodate the protective case and the clip. It would be great if I could just put the assembled phone, protective case and belt clip in the mount, It's a minor inconvenience to remove the belt clip each time I have to put the phone in the mount, especially since I'm in and out of the car a lot, but it's worth the safety benefits. The mount absorbs all the bumps from the road and there's no movement from the mount or the phone. Once I adjust the phone the way I want it, it will not move, vibrate, change position or fall, even when I hit a bump or pothole. I really like the mount, as do my wife and kids. I recommend it as a practical and affordable gift.
The instructions did not explain how I was to put the ball joint (about the size of a large gumball) into a socket that was less than half its size. I looked on EVERY page of the instructions...nothing! It didn't make sense to go any further to try and use this product, so I returned it. Really a shame, as it looked like the perfect thing for my mobile in my car. But if a company is going to be so cheap as to not even explain how to put their product together...what's the use?
This is a very sturdy, strong windshield mount but also has the ability to mount directly onto the dash. The last mount I had started to come off of the dash in hot weather, having it stick to the windshield with this giant suction cup will be very handy. My favorite part of this is the cut out near the bottom of the mount so the charge cord doesn't get mixed up into the mount and prevent it from closing. The packaging was nice and included real 3M adhesive for the dash pieces. I'm excited to be able to use this phone mount which will hold my phone nice and sturdy during my daily commute but will also hold my phone tight during 4 wheeling in the summer.
I had looked at and passed by quite a few phone holders for various reasons. But with my ever-present and infinitely useful new iPhone 11Pro, I really wanted a holder that would keep my phone safe and also allow me to micro-finitely adjust it to use in the car - keeping the phone and me safe, allowing flexibility and ease of use. Also making it easy to take this valuable phone in and out when I would exit the car.
I was wondering how I might install this in my Toyota C-HR, which has a sculpted dashboard and not all that much space. But the MaxBoost Phone Mount comes with a tenaciously sticky clear little mounting "pad" and also the sticky suction attachment - both of which worked on the slight curves of the dashboard and to STICK to it. The sticky pads are 3M and the company says these pads and all can be safely removed from the dash when needed, with no damage to the dashboard. But in the meantime they sure stick like crazy! I have not yet put it to the California grueling sunshine test, but so far, so good. The Mount has an extendable arm to bring the phone closer to me (or side to side or any rotation), and all sorts of customizable adjustments for each and every person out there, I would think.
I did have a little trouble putting everything together and getting it up and running at first. But I took a breath, waited until I was home and had a little time to do this, and following the diagrams and information I got it up and running in about 20 minutes. I was recruited to review this product for a free sample, but it is proving to be something extremely useful, sturdy and well made, and doesn't look too clunky on my dash. I'm very happy to have it and now a safe and convenient place for my phone while driving. I think this is a well-designed and very functional product that will give me a lot of use. I love now that when I am using Waze to navigate the complex world of California freeways and byroads that I will be able to not only hear the vocal instructions, but see the map rolling along as well, without taking my eyes off the road. Thumbs up on this cool and useful gadget!!
The Maxboost car mount is made of high quality plastic and does not feel flimsy. It can be positioned in many different ways to optimize viewing of phone. I like that it can attach on the car windshield or on the dash with the included mounting pad. It secured both my iPhone SE and iPhone Xr without any issues. Overall, a great car mount for the price from a reputable brand.
Pros: -Durable -Many positions (can extend arm out, up or down, side to side) for best viewing -Mount to windshield or dash -Fits many different phone sizes
Cons: -Does not attach to areas lower in car (vent, cup holder, etc) -Bulkier than other car mounts due its many features -Can not have a "pop socket" on phone and put in mount
I needed a car mount that would hold my heavy iPhone XS and work in any car I got into. The Maxboost DuraHold car mount does exactly that. I didn't want to switch to a magnetic case for my infrequent car use, and magnetic mount cases prevent wireless charging.
The DuraHold mount uses a pleasing ratcheting action that grips the phone by the sides. There is foam padding to give it a little extra grip, and the mount needs to be released before it will give up the phone. The chin of the phone rests on a solid plastic piece.
The articulating arm gets tightened and locked into position with thumbwheels. I was a little curious, so when I first got it I extended the arm strait out (simulating it being held by the windshield), popped my phone in and shook it hard (over a soft surface in case the phone went flying). In portrait It was fine, only in landscape did I get a small amount of movement if I was really shaking it. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be driving along to have my phone launched at me if I was on some uneven surface. I resolved that it was safest to use it in portrait, but landscape would be fine too.
The kit comes with a sticker that can be applied to a dashboard to give it a stronger hold in that configuration. I've only used it directly against the windshield, but the arm is adjustable enough to work either way. The only real requirement is having something a suction cup will hold onto. This means a clean, smooth, non-porous surface. You could even stick this thing to a desk if you were so inclined (the thought had crossed my mind when I first saw it).
It's been nice to use and hasn't required me to switch cases, or commit to leaving it in one car.
I usually steer away from using these car mounts because they don’t tend to last. However, I was going on a road trip last week and decided to use this one. It held my phone in the position I desired with no problem. It was easy to install on my dashboard. Initially I placed it in the wrong position and when I removed it, it did not leave a horrible sticky residue, which I’m quite pleased with. Overall, this is a pretty good dashboard mount, and one of the best I’ve ever used.
tl;dr There are two versions of this product. See photos of working and defective ones.
UPDATE: the original review is below for reference. Customer service reached out to me for a resolution and took my product feedback to their R&D team. Even though I experienced quality control issues, this company definitely cares about the satisfaction of their customers and is working hard to improve their product.
============================================================================ It started when my coworker purchased this item and showed it to me. He did a lot of research prior to purchase and found that the item worked well. I first purchased one myself, and finding it worked well, purchased a second for a friend. I even recommended the item to a second coworker who promptly purchased it (and I installed it for her).
Three months later (past the return date), the arm would no longer keep tension even when the knobs were tightened to the max. This caused the arm to fall down. The holder would tilt forward and sometimes drop my phone (holder did not secure my phone).
I was so upset at the mount, I removed it. I found out that the friend whom I purchased the mount stopped using it because it didn’t work well. After investigating the devices, I found that there’s two versions (see photos). Version A (coworkers had 3 of them) worked well. I had two of Version B (which would not stay up).
You can see Version A has a round base and shorter knob while Version B has a square base and longer knob. The base square and knob length do not affect holding the arm up - it’s just how I found that there are two different versions or manufactures under the same listing. Yes, all of the product was purchased under the same ASIN.
So, I decided to try for the sixth device and found I was shipped Version B. Rather than taking a chance on this model, I returned it. I thought certain versions must be shipping to certain consumers because I keep getting the defective ones while other people get working ones.
My cowoker takes pity on me and orders one for me. Alas, it arrives with Version B. I’m not able to adjust the arm angle fully, it seems I have 3 options to hold my phone. Time will tell if the tension gives out again.
