I was in need of a good serrated edge knife but also wanted to get an offset handle and the Mbercer Culinary knives kept coming up in my searches. I can't sing the praises enough about using an offset handle especially after having one of those "As seen on TV" Ginsu knives that I used for years. :) This one is SO much better. I love the grippy handle. It feels solid and stable in my hand, and I can make fairly precise cuts through vegetables and meats. But where this knife shines is in making thin cuts through crusty bread. I'm an amateur artisan bread maker and having a knife that easily cuts through crusty bread is essential. And at the price point it's at, I won't feel bad if it gets damaged. I'll just get a new one, though it feels well-built and sturdy enough to last for quite awhile. And as long as I maintain the blade (I have the correct sharpening tools), I do see having to another one anytime soon.
Overkill on the blade materials, this thing is sharp. The wavy edge blade is just right for breads, and I remember it being advertised as a bread knife. But it makes a terrific cake knife, which is what I use it for. The handle feels cheap, but it is doing it’s job nicely. The offset handle design helps when cutting through a cake, as my hand does not hit the table when I am cutting.
Fantastic quality for the price. I prefer to use my chef's knife for pretty much everything in the kitchen except for cutting bread. You need a good price point for such a niche piece of equipment, and this knife accomplishes exactly that. Also, since serrated knives are more trouble to sharpen than they're worth, it's nice to know that the price on this unit is such that once it gets dull, I can feel comfortable with buying another one.
