The Microplane Gourmet Series has an expansive paddled with ample grating surfaces and stainless steel blades. Ultra-sharp photo etched teeth make fast and effortless work out of grating. The stainless steel frame provides extraordinary durability. The soft touch handle matches back to the premium classic series zesters. The non-slip rubber foot adds stability when grating on counters and plates.

With the cheaper planes all I'd normally accomplish was a stringy paste and more pulp atop the plane than beneath, with this one it's actually sharp enough to cut/grate instead of mushing.
I suspect it will eventually blunt enough to require being replaced, but it's been in use for more than nine months now and is still seemingly as sharp as it was on day one.
Only issue is that it is more like a fine/medium than a coarse grater. I bought it to make potato rosti, which requires quite coarse grating of potatoes. I used this the day it arrived and ended up making mashed potato. I had to use the box grater (which this was bought to replace) to make the dish.
Would recommend the "coarse" version for grating parmesan, other cheeses and similar applications. For carrots and above it would be sensible to purchase a more coarse version (I believe they have both extra coarse and ultra coarse).
This is a blooming lovely grater! Seriously, the difference between this and my old grater, that has served me well for a few years but in reality gave up the ghost ages ago, is like chalk and cheese. The sturdiness is obvious as soon as you pick it up and the microplane blade is terrific. I’ve only tried it on a few bits and pieces of veg but I’m delighted with the results, giving what I’d describe as ‘fine’ gratings. As other reviewers have said, microplane offer such a wide range of blades, you need to be mindful of this when selecting the best for your needs.
A couple of other things that might help new buyers. Firstly, the plastic cover it comes with is worth keeping and using to keep things safe in your utensil drawer (if you use such a thing). No need to take any stickers off this, as it’s probably quite useful to see which grater is which courseness, if you have several. As for the sticker on the back of the blade, well I’d been dreading removing it, due to the number of reviewers who’ve really struggled. I was all ready to soak it in olive oil overnight but just thought I’d have a little tug at one corner. Oh my goodness! It came straight off! What an anticlimax! 😂. Maybe microplane have changed the adhesive? Whatever, it was dead easy to remove, leaving zero residue.
Anyway, as I said, I’ll update if this doesn’t live up to extended use but for now, I’m pretty delighted with what I’ve bought. Mind you, for this price, I should be!
The first time I used a fine Microplane I literally laughed with delight. Garlic is so delicate it just melts in the pan; lemon zest disappears into whatever you're making, instead of getting stuck in people's teeth; chocolate turns into a heavenly powder. You feel like a wizard!
I can only recommend this item if grate things often and want it to be less of a chore.
