From the Inside Flap
Midnight is the time when most children are fast asleep, except of course for the Midnight Gang! That is when their adventures are just beginning. . . .
When Tom gets hit on the head by a cricket ball and finds himself at Lord Funt Hospital, he is greeted by the most terrifying-looking man he's ever seen. And just when he thinks things can't get any worse, in walks the wicked matron in charge of the children's ward. . . .
Little does Tom know that once he meets his fellow patients, he will embark on the most epic journey of a lifetime.
The Midnight Gang is the spellbinding story of five children in a hospital ward--and on a quest for adventure!--The Guardian --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.
A surreal world in which adults are remote and children set the stage with their wildest imaginings...Irreverent as Roald Dahl, Walliams is a unique author who's created a memorable world and cast of characters.-- "School Library Journal" --This text refers to the audioCD edition.

I love David Waliams style and recommend this book for children between around 8-11.

Now, if you’ve never read any of this stuff as a parent you might want to give it a once over before letting your child read it. I personally find some of the language used (describing people as fat or slow for example) a little troubling in this day and age. Not just in this book.....ALL of his books.
I have heard some parents say some books feature language which is nothing short of racist, and anti working class.....so yes, skim read before you give to your kids perhaps. I know the odd rude insult will make the kids laugh blah blah blah but unfortunately we live in an age where we need to get kids education right from an early age.
Having skimmed through quite a few of these books I have a much lesser opinion of Walliams.
