We've had two of these washing lines the first we used to leave outside on the wall in all conditions. The replacement we kept inside the garage and both have suffered the same fault where the plastic has snapped at the bottom where you wrap the washing line around.
3rd one has done exactly the same Poor Product
Install and easy to use then after a month the washing line suddenly dropped. On investigation I discovered that the plastic body you have to wrap the line round had snapped off. See pics. Anyway amazon are sending me out a replacement but I have a bad feeling it’s a design fault. We shall see.
I'm getting fed up with it now and may replace with another manufacturer as this doesn't do the job at all. Ps photo taken after another collapse, hence the line looks saggy. Normally I get the line taught before hanging. Nevertheless, it'll just sag again and if windy, blow it all over.
Edited to add: After taking photo of line, it collapsed again. Brought the washing in and tossed the clothes line in the bin. Barely lasted a year.
Living in a home with multiple occupants, this is a great solution for clothes drying in the garden. As it's retractable, u can pull the line as and when you need it. You will have to drill holes into your wall for installation so that's one thing to bare in mind. The wall mount for the main unit seems a bit fiddly but nothing major. We hook the hooks onto our shed. It has handled some very heavy clothings at time so definitely durable.
A family member has the single reel version which has the ability to pivot, this one does not so if that is important for you then maybe consider the single reel.
Overall I am very pleased and impressed with this product and have recommended others who are also pleased.
Installation (not much but could be for some)
Slightly fiddly main unit
As the bracket is screwed into the exterior of the house I will be looking to replace with the same one so I don't have to drill more holes in the house but I wish I had of opted for another brand.
The plus points are the fact that the line can be rolled back up into the dispenser to keep it clean and out of the elements in the winter months and you don't have to have a line permanently on view in your garden but they need to look at adding sturdier bits to wrap the line around in future.
I bought the single line 15m model as I was a little restricted on how wide a device I could fit in the location. This comes with good instruction as to installing and using the line. I didn’t realise the what hook-lung thing on the bottom was for on my previous line (as was in place when I moved in) but realised from the instructions this is to tension the line. It is a little fiddly to get right at first as you need to pull the cord round twice to make it work but I have the hang of it now.
It is very lightweight but seems to cope with everything well. I’ve so far used it for a bunch of mixed loads and it is coping with the weight (heaviest load I’ve used on this so far is 2 bath sheets, a double bedding set (4 pillows, cover and sheet) and 6 hand towels).
Installation was easy for me as one of the screws matched up my old model so just needed to screw one additional fixing into wood. I can’t comment on the hook for fixing the washing line as we hook the end tab over a hanging basket hook but it looks like it would definitely do the job.
I like that you can easily remove the line from the hanging bracket for storage over winter so the line doesn’t get frail. The retreating line performs well too - don’t just let the line pull in on its own, walk the line back to the housing.
So far I’m very happy with this and would recommend it!
The first lasted 2.5 years before the plastic clips that the bottom that you use to make the line taught became brittle and snapped, making the product useless. I did wonder if this was a bit of planned obsolescence as the rest of the unit is in working order and a different design with some metal clips may have given the unit many years of addition use.
So the plastic unit went into landfill as it did not seem to be designed for recycling and there was no mention of recycling in the paperwork that came with the new one. So I think when / if this new one breaks, I will find a more environmentally friendly alternative.
To be fair I did not store the unit away in winter. Maybe that would have extended it’s life.
