An uplifting and original film which makes one chuckle for days afterwards. It has all the usual hallmarks of a Wes Anderson film but is very different from the The Royal Tenebaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel, keenly observed, absurd, beautifully filmed based around a young boy and his coming of age, although this story is centred on a scout camp, an island, a storm and an amazing scene at a church! The cast is scattered with the usual Wes Andesron favourite actors playing parts that are very different yet all equally memorable. A Great Friday night in movie!
Wes Anderson knows exactly what he's doing with this bizarre wilderness adventure. If you've seen The Fantastic Mr. Fox and you enjoyed it you'll certainly like this. Everything feels spot-on in this runaway story, and it's refreshing to see Bruce Willis in such a different role to his usual. If you enjoy some eccentric story-telling and cinematography this story will entertain. I wasn't dissapointed.
Relax and go with the flow with this film. Great actors and actresses carry off a story filled with strange and bizarre happenings which are yet quite 'ordinary ' events. There is a touch of dread that things may not work out which heightens the feeling of relief and satisfaction when things do finally work out happily for the characters you have come to care for.
Such a funny film, love Wes Anderson and i think this is one of his best. More quirky than The Grand Budapest, but just as funny and sweet. Really lovely story and great performances by all in it, great family watch.
A charming movie, the like of which I haven't seen in a long time! Wonderful cameos from Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand ,Edward Norton and Tilda Swinton. Its a coming of age/romance movie but nothing like anything you would have seen before I would wager. The heroe/ heroine are both children who give a mafnificent performances It is a genuinely sweet movie and with a very dry sense of humour. A hit from Wes Anderson !!!
Moonrise Kingdom certainly deserves its sole Oscar nomination (Original Screenplay). It really should have gotten more. The story did not start off slowly at all and gets straight to the interesting part. The interactions between characters were written entertainingly sharp, delivered by an excellent cast of actors. The two amazing young stars are certainly the ones that stood out the most. The color palette, while not to everyone's taste, fits the fairy tale suggested by the setting. Wes Anderson was often criticized for making films that are essentially "dollhouses", but this one actually has scenes that were very honestly human (the 'romantic' scenes at the beach, for example).
