first off i can say this is much better then the 50th ann of soft parade that was released last year, this is the fifth set i have got over the past few years in this 50th ann set series and this is the best one since waiting for the sun, anyway what we get here is a nice remastered version of the lp on 180 g thick vinyl & the lp is a nice replication of the original 1970 release with the ELECTRA logo/label and all. then we get the first cd wich is a very powerful sounding remastered version of the MORRISON HOTEL record again in cd format but for listeners cd #2 is the REAL GEM HERE WICH IS FOR THE DIE HARDS ,COLLECTORS OR JUST THE CURIOUS!! it is loaded with studio outtakes of the band forming QUEEN OF THE HIGHWAY and there are many outtakes of all 4 members and you can hear the many different titles they had for the track here on the box set as well as the band in discussions during the sessions, i love the outtake for I WILL NEVER BE UNTRUE as it is followed by an unkown outtake on track #10. NOW ON TO THE MONEY BEATS SOUL SESSIONS wich is a lot of what the band worked on wich became one of the doors most infamous hits ROADHOUSE BLUES!! there are many takes and band conversations going on again as well as a decent cover of morisson & co doing ROCK ME BABY wich turned out great and then we go on to a killer version of demo creation of PEACE FROG/BLUE SUNDAY last DEMO peace frog. there is some interesting stuff jim is saying during those tracks but i will leave that to the listener so overall this is a great package for real hardcore doors fans and or collectors. the box is made of high quality thick cardboard (like a hardcover book) and the packaging is very nice, this one we even get a nice booklet of photos & essay with so i am much happier with this then the 50th ann soft parade last year as i was not crazy about bobby going in and laying down NEW guitar tracks for some of that, i feel ALL these 50th ann editions should come from what is in the ELECTRA vaults from 50 years ago!!!!
This is a great album! One of my favorites! Howsoever, I'm not very impressed with the remastering job on this 2020 edition. Many of the instruments have been relegated to the background where you can barely hear them. The second CD of studio takes on several songs is a waste and basically a throw-off to help sell another remastering, There has been better remastering of this album done in the past. The remasters of all 6 Doors albums done for the Perception box set have much better sound quality and separation with the instruments and voices much better balanced.
