Thankyou I recommend this dvd it has when love is gone only problem is usa so wont play in uk but you can buy a dvd player that plays them DVDs so not much of a problem I just wish uk Europe wouldn't of delete that scene as i love this film and couldn't watch it with out that scene it just weren't the same felt like a part was missing so now I know what I be watching every Christmas x
This is, without doubt, the very best version of Dickens' Christmas Carol that you'll find. The human actors perform the lines from the book word for word. I hadn't read the book until I'd seen the film, and was advised to by the Muppet at the end of the film, and never noticed this aspect in the film, but it is a brilliant touch and far better than any reworking of the lines to make them modern. A marvellou adaptation but I have to agree with the reviewers who gave it low ratings - removing Belle's song leaves a gap which is hard to recover from. I managed to buy a VHS copy from a charity shop. can't watch it because I don't have a video player any more, but at least I have it (having parted with my own VHS copy when I unwittingly bought the DVD). Don't try recording it off the TV either, that version's been cut too. All I can suggest is you watch the movie, pause at the appropriate place (we all know it), search on an on-line site which has it, watch the song, wipe eyes and return to the DVD. . .
This was bought to watch with my Dad over Christmas as a Christmas Carol is his favourite. However, we took him instead to see it at the theatre and as he stayed just 2 nights and the other day we went to the cinema to see Cats we didn't have time to watch it. We will put it somewhere sensible for next Christmas and look forward to watching it then!
What a fantastic dvd, we watch it every year and no matter what age we reach, it still makes us smile, ages ranging from 21 up to 56 yrs. Great acting and puppetry , very clever props and well worth viewing. "...and a merry Christmas to one and all," said Tiny Tim as he sat on his stool near the mean fire , his stick leaning on his leg. x
There are many christmas films that people love. But for me, this film stands head and shoulders above the rest.
This heartwarming take on the classic Dickensian Christmas allows for you to really reach the heights of happiness on what is or many, the happiest day of the year.
The casting of Michael Caine as Scrooge works perfectly as we see his transformation from miserable miser to frivolous fellow. We go on a journey with Scrooge and it is no easy task but Caine rises to it with aplomb.
The Muppets as always provide great amounts of laughter with their quick jokes, clever songs and great character combinations. The back and forth between Rizzo and Gonzo is a classic example of how to perfectly craft your characters interaction to make it feel real, even though we definitively know that our beloved Muppets sit in a slightly different reality than us.
If you have not seen this film, go get it. Wait till December the first and then fill your house with the joy of the season.
I knew Michael Caine was/is a versatile actor, but to be the "straight" foil for the semi-anarchic Muppets was a genius of casting. He'll never fill the Royal Albert Hall with his singing, but he played along with them perfectly well - let's face it, Kermit is even less likely to fill a front room!
Brilliantly bonkers retelling of Dickens's classic Christmas tale. All the Muppet mayhem you would expect without losing the original themes of selfishness versus kindness and redemption. Michael Caine as a singing Scrooge! Kermit as Bob Cratchit! What's not to love? Perfect festive fare for adults and children. Sorry if this sounds like an advert -- I just love it!
I know it's got Muppets, singing and the ending is wrong - but it is FANTASTIC!!!
If you're ever feeling depressed - at any time of the rolling year! - put this on and you'll soon be feeling wonderful! Michael Caine is SUPERB as Scrooge - he should have got an Oscar! My family and I love this book, and read it aloud during advent, so we practically know it by heart, and Caine is the very epitome of Scrooge. They're all good - Stephen Mackintosh is lovely as Fred, and as for the Muppets - well, what needs to be said? They are as much fun as ever. Kermit and Miss Piggy make excellent Cratchits, and I love Fozzywig and Mom - and also Jacob and Bob Marley!! We watch this as a family every Christmas Eve, and it just about makes our Christmas! A wonderful film for absolutely anyone of any age.
