One of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved classics, Totoro celebrates its 25th anniversary!
The beloved animation classic by legendary Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki, My Neighbor Totoro, is now a novel. This edition features original illustrations by Miyazaki himself, accompanying a story by veteran children’s author Tsugiko Kubo.
Eleven-year-old Satsuki and her sassy little sister Mei have moved to the country to be closer to their ailing mother. Soon, in the woods behind their spooky old house, Satsuki and Mei discover a forest spirit named Totoro. When Mei goes missing, it’s up to Satsuki to find her sister, and she’ll need help from some new, and magical, friends.

I still enjoy the charming motion picture. Decided to purchase the original novel and artwork, for more detail. Not disappointed.

Beautiful

A beautiful book for those for love My Neighbour Totoro. It's a 7.5" tall book, so fairly small, but it's a study hardback. The writing is big and there's 244 pages. Throughout the story you get pieces of artwork that really bring the story to life as you read it. Would definitely recommend this book.

Enchanting story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 October 2018Verified Purchase
We are huge fans of the movie so were thrilled to be able to buy this book. It is an utterly enchanting story. The book is small and the illustrations simple but effective. I have seen more attractive, engaging books based on other anime movies (Ponya etc). I've given the book 4 out of 5 stars because i bought the book primarily for my kids (boys aged 5, 6 and 9) who are huge Totoro fans (they have onesies, school bags, pencil cases, know the movie inside out) but for some reason the book hasn't captured their imagination and engaged them in the way I had hoped :(

Oh my goodness, I could not believe there is a book from the film, I was over the moon when I bought it. Brilliant price, came the next day, every time I read a chapter I was in a different mind set like I am with studio ghibli. What a lovely story, I LOVE IT! 1000% RECOMMEND!!!!!!!

for older children
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 June 2020Verified Purchase
I bought this book as my one year old grand daughter is a Totoro fan but I didnt realise the book is for older kids with no pictures. Looks like I will have to read the story to the 4 and 1 year old grand daughters who both love this cartoon series. lol. The book has just arrived so the 4 star is probably a guess

What every Totoro fan needs in their life
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 August 2019Verified Purchase
This book is a must have for any Totoro(ist) in your life, or for yourself. This is a charming, hardback book. There are some wonderful two page illustrations, but not too many, this is a novel, not a picture book.
