A little dated as it's from 1995 (e-commerce wasn't a thing and he doesn't talk about it – the only mentions of 'selling' are face to face as a salesman and those kinds of tactics) but the systems and practices he talks about are still very relevant and something I'd never considered until reading this book. Very good for working our what you want to get out of your business and the role you want to play most (the technician, the manager or the entrepreneur).
You'll have to ignore some of his tangents/characters (he quite likes storytelling) but if you can get through that, this is a worthy read of anyone's time.

In this audio edition of the totally revised underground best seller, The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business, from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed, and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business. After you have listened to The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

Book itself is great but came damaged and took two months to arrive. Possibly post damage although could have been packed better

A must read for anyone who is considering staring a business based on something they love to do. This book shows you how to not be trapped in the doing, but to work on the business, not in it. Fascinating observations about how systems affect how well we do, and how we can make them work for us. Shows you how to use success’s stories and make it your own.

A great read (almost essential reading) if you own your own small business, whether you are a start up or a mature business. Presents the way you need to view and structure up your entire business to maximize your success. I did not give it 5 stars because I thought there was a little too much padding, maybe I am just impatient.

Well written, clear, with only the occasional segue into wistfulness. I look forward to following the roadmap, enjoying the journey, and maybe finding the destination...

Nowadays there is a lot of literature out there in how to start a startup. I would recommend this book to startup founders to get a different perspective on business.

A reasonable introduction to E-myth. The key messages are a little buried in the story, but there's is good content in there if you persevere.

The small business "Bible"

I read the E-Myth when I first started running my own business more than twenty years ago, and re-read it every few years to remind myself of the E-Myth philosophy.
This has been a life changing book for me.
It first taught me that I don't want to own a job, I want to own a business. Since that moment, I've learned to work on my businesses, not just in them.
This book provides the material to help change the mindset of any technician (be they in IT, bakery, floristry on any business!) and offers practical advice on how to systemsise your business.
I can't recommend this book enough for anyone who runs a business.

Great book for entrepreneurs and a must-read book…
Reviewed in India on 11 July 2019Verified Purchase
This book can be divided in 2 sections: One being the entrepreneur myths which I loved about the book that how well the concerns were addressed.
The second section was completely turning the self-employed business to franchise model which I can call it as so…so for me as I was expecting more illustration apart from restaurant franchise.
Giving it 4 stars just because the name of the book is quite appealing but the recipe in the book is not that spicy.
It is a must buy if you are or want to be in franchise business model.

A misunderstood book...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2021Verified Purchase
Anyone reading this book and thinking it is all about how to create a Franchise are missing the point, as is anyone reading it wanting another 'business classic' to discuss at the water-cooler with their corporate colleagues.
This book is for people who own and run a small business (or want to create one). This book is for people who have spent long, long hours building a business only to find that it is not all flowers and light, but is, in fact, all-consuming hard work. This book shows a way out of that hole - how to reshape your business so that it can run without you there, not permanently, but, you know, for weekends and holidays and the other stuff you lost along the way. It also shows you how to create a business that you could sell in the future if you wanted to - rather than a business that grinds to a halt the moment you are not there to do the work.
I'm currently reading this book fo the third-time, and it is more relevant now than ever, as I am much further along the small-business owner journey.
This is a great book, but only for those who truly understand what it is like to be Sarah...

5 star book despite the client/character portrayed in it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2017Verified Purchase
I'm giving it 5 stars as it's packed with valuable information that I'm positive will prevent me from making a great deal of mistakes in my new small business, BUT... the author includes a side story to illustrate the mindset of the small business owner that made me cringe and wish he had picked a more relatable character than Sarah. Such a horrible, dull, uninteresting client that doesn't add anything to this book - I now think if I had skipped all the bits about her I wouldn't have missed anything at all.

Pirated Book. Don’t buy. Amazon is breeding piracy.
Reviewed in India on 10 March 2020Verified Purchase
I bought 4 books together about a month back and I just started reading this one. This book is full of typos, poor alignment, varying font heights and odd spaces within words. It is a shoddy job even for piracy. I’ve put up images showing all the defects.
You know that feeling you get when you are deeply engrossed in reading a chapter and suddenly an odd spelling mistake or typo jumps out and diverts your attention killing the flow, forcing you to go back a few lines and re-establish the context.. this is exactly that kind of a book. A pure kill-joy. Maybe it’s my OCD but I’m sure it applies in some way or the other to everyone.
Never knew that Amazon would advocate piracy of books. I guess that’s what you get when things are sold cheaper than they should be.
Sad thing is Amazon won’t let me return/exchange the product as it is out of the return period policy.
The money is not much but this should be an eye opener for you guys out there. Please buy from your local bookstore. Touch, feel and read a few pages before you buy.
Hope this helps!
Please thumbs-up this comment if you want to stop piracy!
