For a first solo album this is quite a good effort.I love the opening track - Everybody's On The Run - great instrumentation and lyrics/vocals.Track 3 If I Had A Gun another really good track.I also like the lyrics in track 7 Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks. There is still an element of that Oasis sound /style mixed in with Noel's own contribution as well as the new bands style/sound.Over all a very good album.Highly Recommended
I bought this album because I`d heard `AKA What a Life` a fair bit on the radio & really liked it - also the album was only a fiver! I have to admit that I was not a huge Oasis fan - between us, my husband & I have all their albums, but for me they stand for that moment in time in the nineties & rarely listen to them (although I have a special place for `Dont Look Back in Anger` & `Wonderwall`). This album though, I adore, I feel as if I suddenly `know` Noel - I hear his voice for the first time - its so easy breezy & beautiful. Every song I enjoy immensely, but for me the stand out track is `Everybody`s On The Run` - simply stunning. I think I`m just a little bit in love with this talented singer, songwriter & musician.........
For the past ten years at least CD's from most artists seem to contain 2 or 3 good songs and the rest is filler. This is the first album I've bought in years where I have loved every track. It proves really where the real talent lay in Oasis and often I always found I preferred the songs that Noel sang just because Liam's nasally vocal delivery got a bit old after a while.
If you are looking for lots of hard driving guitar rock, this won't be for you. But if you want some lovingly crafted songs with great lyrics and catchy melodies, look no further.
Everybody's on the run, Dream on & The death of you and me are all good, reminds me of early Oasis days, when they were good! Remember Oasis first 2 Lps, the only 2 good albums and at a push their 3rd one was ok! Considering Noel was the only talented member of Oasis, all that is missing on this LP is the media magnet, free publicity machine that is Liam. (He has a good Rock n Roll voice).
I have always liked oasis for their music because it was raw and having heard and seen noel gallagher performing on tv recently, I decided to buy the cd, I have to say on hearing it first in my car I was impressed, there are some great tracks on it and yes you could imagine it being an oasis cd. You wont be disappointed with this, it has a good balance of tracks all with that riff driven and melodic sound you would associate with him.
