We used de-ionised water from a car parts shop as we live in a very hard water area.
Followed instructions, didn't manage to dissolve all of the powder into the boiling water as was suggested might happen. Daughter enjoyed watching it grow over the next 10 days.
Was easy to drain off remaining water and remove from the pint glass. Was a little disappointed the crystals weren't green as advertised - although the seed rock (piece of plaster with textured surface) does glow in the dark.
Daughter loves it regardless, she really does treasure it and is very proud of it.
I think it looks pretty cool, there isn't much to do in the sense of 'preparation' - Just stir in powder to boiling water which I was a bit cautious of my 6 year old doing.
We followed the instructions to the letter, but feel let down. I'm disappointed to say that I won't be purchasing this item again in the future.
