I tried 3 blade, 5 blade, and even safety blade razors, nothing seemed to help. I tried going from shaving every day to shaving twice a week to growing a beard, and only trimming around it once a week. I tried sensitive Gillette shaving cream, sensitive Edge shave gel, and even using sensitive soap and a brush. I even added a water softener, and 2 stage whole house filtration system thinking my problem was hard water. Nothing seemed to help.
Then it occurred to me that maybe I was allergic, or having a reaction to the shaving cream, or the lotions on the razors. This week I went back to my safety razor, and switched to this shaving cream, and wow what a difference. I still felt a little irritation after shaving on Sunday, but it faded by the next morning. I felt so good that I tried trimming around my beard again on Wednesday this week, and even though my safety razor got stuck a few times (nicks and cuts from getting the hang of how to use it), there was no razor irritation, or burning sensation after shaving.
I highly recommend this shaving cream, and a safety razor if you're like me and every shave was a nightmare that left your face flushed, hot, and irritated for days.
Good: I've been using this shave cream with a double edged safety razor for 5+ years now. I'm on my third razor (keep dropping and breaking the damn things), but the shave cream remains the same. Just a little bit goes a long way, and lathers up nice and smooth and a nice, mild scent. It's at least partially translucent, so you can actually see where you are shaving for detail work (unlike foams). Great comfort after the shave as well. Combined with a real razor, I can't remember the last time I had razor burn.
Bad: Because it is not a foam, it does not hold its shape. Which means it will run everywhere when you squirt it in your hand. Be careful, or you'll waste a lot during application.
Other: We need a travel size!
If you are thinking about switching from shaving with a traditional foam/gel, it is somewhat of a shock switching to a shave cream where you just need a thin, somewhat transparent layer on your skin to do the job. Per instructions, I use about a quarter-sized amount each day for my face and the razor is able to glide through. I am still on the first bottle- so if you use it right it does not run out fast. It has a great smell, similar to an after shave (my wife loves it).
Bottom line: if you have sensitive skin prone to irritation when shaving, this is definitely worth a try to see if it works for you too.
