5.0 out of 5 stars Precision Made, One Handed Operation but Provided Pencils are too Soft.
Reviewed in the United States on 23 December 2019
I used the Newkiton Wheel Marking Gauge exclusively for word working so my review is based entirely on that. Normally to draw a line I use a combo square while holding a pencil on the edge while moving the square, a 2 handed operation. Read on for my observations.

-- PRECISION MADE: Precision milled steel, brass and aluminum.
-- ENGRAVED MARKING: The graduations are engraved in the shaft so they will never wear off.
-- METRIC AND US: Two scales, 1 one centimeters and one in inches.
-- LARGE SMOOTH BRASS PLATE: The slide is very nice, a large and flat diameter made of precision milled and polished brass which slides smoothly over the wood.
-- EASY TO SETUP: Slide the assembly up and down the shaft to get the course measurement then lock it down with the gold knurled nut, then use the red nut to turn the assembly for a fine adjustment. Finally when done, lock the assembly to the shaft with the silver knurled knob.
-- DRAWS A GOOD LINE: the provided carbon pencils provide a nice dark line (see picture).
-- ONE HANDED OPERATION: Much easier to use since you can use one hand to draw the line while holding the work piece with the other hand.

-- MESSY PENCILS: The carbon pencils are very soft without a sleeve. Handling them leaves a black residue on ones fingers. Its best to wrap the pencils in tape before use. (see picture)
-- NEED MORE GRADUATIONS: the scale is only in 1/16 and 1/8". Its difficult to know what the absolute measurement is if the inch measure is covered. It should also have inch markings.
-- PENCIL BREAKS EASY: the pencils are soft and will break if you drop them.
-- HANG FOR STORAGE: With the pencil installed it cannot be stored in a drawer or the pencil will break from jostling around. It should be hung on a wall to store.
-- PENCIL SCREW LOOSENS: the small screw inside the hold tube will loosen with use and should be locked in place using thread locker (See picture).
-- NEEDS PENCIL MAINTENANCE: The soft pencils need frequent sharpening. Spinning the lead on fine sandpaper will create a sharp point (see picture). Paper should be even finer then 220 grit which is used in the picture attached.
