The gel is light, but when ran through the hair has a cloying feeling, though not a negative thing at all. I have short/mid length hair, so I only needed 2cm of it to comb through my washed hair. I blow dried it straight away and reached the stuck-up-at-the-front style I usually go for easily, you can even do a last comb through without stripping the benefits away. The result was a very thick (comparatively), soft finish to my hair. It isn't a strong hold in any sense, but combined with a quick pulse of hair spray it's great, especially with Nioxin's own spray.
Anyway, the product itself is a white gel-like substance which is lightly scented. The fragrance has a slightly medical undertone to it, but it’s not unpleasant. Massaging it into the hair it continues to feel like hair gel but it does legitimately give the feeling of more fullness being created - like the hair is being fed. You might not notice it as much if your hair isn’t fine, but it is a nice sensation. It doesn’t have any greasy tendency to it, which is nice. It doesn’t hold the hair particularly well we found it best to combine it with a hairspray but overall we were pleasantly surprised with the effect.
It does feel a bit expensive at c. £20 (at time of review) but if you have fine hair you might always struggle with getting a desirable finish using regular products so to have something that can create some thickness as a starting block for your style might be more valuable to you than overdoing regular sprays or gels on their own and never being truly satisfied.
I immediately massaged it between clean hands then applied the warmed product to my hair. Taking time to coat each hair with the product. It really is the case of a little going a long way, I found if I applied too much my hair was flat, heavy and listless.
This is an ideal solution for hair which is fine and therefore needed a product which adds much-needed volume but not a product which is so rich that it weighs your hair down. I found this is a product which needs direct heat from a hairdryer to swell the follicle of the hair shaft, therefore, giving the illusion of hair which is more thicker and voluminous.
A great product which I am happy to recommend.
To be honest it doesn't make my hair look thicker, but it's a very good gel.
You only need a very little amount and you'll be able to style your hair without the superhard effect.
Hair stays in place and relatively soft.
Better than many gels out there, but thickening effect didn't work for me.
No other product i know of works on thin hair, so no surprise there.
I'm not too keen on the value as it's a little dear for me. It does thicken so it does its job.
A nice fresh scent.
You can use it sparingly.
Does it work? Yes.
Wash and condition your hair and then apply this to you shape and style your look.
Does it help with shaping? Yes
It does help tame the most unruly hair? This helps tame that problem.
It feels quite gelatinous when rubbed between my fingers, on hair it looses that a little and becomes lighter.
It holds hair pretty well, if spread thinly it keeps hair in place without weighing it down.
As for the thickening properties, it is ok in that respect, on thinner short hair it did make a difference, giving it a more textured appearance which made it appear fuller.
It can be brushed out but doing so does leave a residue, so it is better washed out in my opinion.
