Great Purchase
Reviewed in Canada on 18 September 2015Verified Purchase
I have been looking for a small travel Rod to fit in a suitcase and take on trips. I checked out other travel rods but the cases were always too long to fit in a suitcase so you would have to carry on the aircraft or check it in. This Okuma Rod I bought is 6'6" spinning rod that fits what I was looking for with the case only 24 inches long. It is a nice looking rod, 4 pieces because of handle even though it says 3 piece , very light and balances well with a Pflueger President 6930. The case is good quality and the Rod piece are wrapped in a nice rod soft sock with 4 separate slots keeping the pieces protected. Looking forward to trying the unit out on the river but I am happy with my purchase.

Nice pole, wish it had the upper grip
Reviewed in the United States on 12 June 2014Verified Purchase
Good:
- This is a 4 piece pole, not 3 like the description indicates. (smaller)
- The pieces fit together perfectly, it feels like 1 piece when assembled, no play in the joints to rattle around.
- The balance without a reel is spot on
- Comes with a nice little soft case AND a hard tube with canvas wrap and a zippered top. Perfect for packing. Tube case has foam padding at both ends to protect tips. Roles up perfectly in my sleeping pad for extra protection.
- very light weight
- very nice looking. It looks like quality, and feels it.
Bad (opinionated):
- I really wish the grip extended above the reel. Thought I wouldn't care, turns out I like having it because... my reel unbalances the pole. My fault, I really should have brought the pole with me when reel shopping. I put a spinner on it. Because of the reel, the neutral balance is just above the mounting point, which isn't ergonomic without padding. I'll cork it or something.
- It's definitely a bit stiffer than I was expecting from a Medium Light action, but feedback is great.
Travel poles are a bit of a compromise, but this is an impressive option, and very well constructed. It was between this and the Fenwick Eagle. There seems to be a lot of value for the dollar in the Okuma. My reel is also Okuma, and overall I'm impressed with value for money.

Got this for travelling and backpacking. Puts together and stays together. Great sensitivity, I can tell the difference from a drag in the grass from a push, a rock from nibble. I Tube the rod for flights heading down to the gulf. I use just the wrap to put it in my backpack. Paired it with a Plueger Supreme XT 35 and I couldn't be happier.
Update: In Galveston at my sisters beach house watching the Astros game (hence, the orange wig) Tampa Bay is batting so I cast a plastic jig off the deck. 42 inch, 37 pound black drum. This pole performed beautifully.

This is a really good travel rod for the money
Reviewed in the United States on 5 August 2019Verified Purchase
This is a really good travel spinning rod for the money. I have avoided four piece spinning rods in the past as I felt they would compromise sensitivity, durability and castibilty. Then I thought several of my fly rods are four piece and have no issues. So I bought this rod and I am impressed so far. I have used it about 5 or 6 times so far and have have caught many fish including a 6 pound wiper. To date I have used original rapalas, jigs, diving plugs and poppers casting all with ease. I could feel the vibration of the diver plugs and when the jigs hit weeds in the handle. The rod has plenty of backbone to fight large fish. The carry case and the cloth sleeve is a nice touch. Time will tell on the durability.
