Product description

This is the only OLFA cutter than can accommodate specialty blades — pinking, scallop/peak and wave — for decorative edging. A dual-action safety lock allows for the blade to be locked while in use or locked inside the handle when not in use. This OLFA Deluxe rotary cutter has it all: comfort, convenience, strength and safety. Its ergonomic handle with anti-slip rubber grip eliminates hand fatigue and stress, while the squeeze trigger allows the blade to self-retract for safety. Use the blade for fabric, paper, vinyl, tarp, upholstery, fleece, felt and more. The cutter can handle up to six layers of cotton fabric. To prolong the blade's life, use it with a rotary cutting mat.

3.0 out of 5 stars Side by side review

I purchased this on the second round of cutting scrubs for the NHS local hospital. This time I was not sewing but cutting and packing for the sewing team. I decided to trade up from the generic cutter and take something more robust. Here is an honest review.
Pros: it’s sturdy, my generic cutter feel plasticity and light in the hand, it also doesn’t have a great ‘built to last feel’ the Olaf feels weighted and solid.
I found the grip better than the generic model, it also had a better feel to the opening and closing mechanism.

Cons: the cutting wheels are soooo expensive, although I was in awe that the first few cuts felt like I needed no pressure and the material just parted. I probably noticed after two sets (82) cut pieces that the blades dulled somewhat. But here’s the kicker, I had one accident and came off my cutting mat for a second onto my table and instantly the blade was dull in a patch to the point it wouldn’t cut. It became like a pizza wheel. When this has previously happened to me using generic blades I can carry on with little issue but the Olaf blade was just not having it. While the blades initially seem super sharp they dull quickly and so I’m going to say, pick the cutter but use a generic blade and save yourself the money. You can swap so many generic blades out buy the time you’ve paid for the originals and they last no longer.
