The LS-100 is the pinnacle of sound quality in the Olympus LS series of linear PCM recorders that continue to be praised for their excellent sound quality. The microphone and amplifier circuits have been completely redesigned to achieve superior frequency response and the maximum sound pressure level of 140dB SPL. The result is astounding sound of the highest quality. This model also comes with phantom power compatible XLR and standard phone combo jacks. With features such as multitrack recording/editing, metronome and tuner functions, this premium model will also meet the highest expectations of professionals and musicians.

But overall, a great product even though I was advised by Olympus that the product is now discontinued.

Apart from that, recording quality is really good. Battery life is great. Menu system is easy to figure out. Overall a very good build quality, high quality mics.
I would definitely recommend this recorder to someone who was looking to podcast, or record music, etc.
I wish Olympus implement dial and button function rather than users have to go through the menu setting every time.
It should have buttons for input, record level and rotating dial.
The menu system is very cumbersome.
And also please note when you buy from Japan the manual is in Japanese and not English :(
The seller was great, deliver on time, excellent packaging.
The recorder works fairly well other than that.
Update: Despite the Olympus denial of the problem, it was fixed in the current software/firmware update.
I find the idea of running line level into a mini jack unacceptable in a product of this level and price. I instead have moved on to a Tascam DR40 which does accept line and mic level signals via XLR:
P.S. A little tip for those planning to use this device with external microphones: When using them with the XLR jacks, set the Mic Gain for both XLR channels to LO (unless you're recording very delicate sounds from a distance). This will ensure that you achieve the cleanest sound possible on your recording.
