About two months later and there are barely any noticible marks. We love these!
My Aussie is a Kong nut. LOVES the Kong. All we have to say is "where's your Kong?" and he'll tear around the house until he finds it. So I really wasn't sure if he was going to like this chew toy or just ignore it. I put it on the floor, and he came over and very tentatively picked it up with his front teeth and carried it over to his rug. He started chewing...and didn't stop for at least an hour. He LOVES this thing. He really seems to like being able to hold it between his paws and chew on one end. He meets us at the door with it. He carries it around like he's Groucho Marx with a cigar in his mouth. And this "bionic" stuff seems to be indestructible. He's been chewing on this for 2 days, and ok there are a couple of minor scratches on it, but no major damage. And this is a dog that can destroy a tennis ball in about 2 minutes. We use the black heavy duty Kong with him. As you can see in the video, he likes his new toy. And as an added benefit, it doesn't squeak nearly as much as the Kong when being chewed, which puts everyone in a better mood. Recommended.
The overall length is about 9 inches at it's widest-the ends- it is 2 1/2 inches x 2 inches with the pocket slot being roughly 1 1/2 inches x 1/2 inch on either end. It tapers to the middle which is an inch wide.
In terms of material, this is very quite tough. However, the center is a weak point. It flexes and is thinner at that area and, if concerted chewing happens there, it gets even weaker. I think that this is likely to snap in half if the middle is grabbed/chewed a lot as opposed to the ends. I expect this will one day be two pieces instead of one after sharp teeth work it over enough times. I will say that I found that these “Bionic” toys work well for dogs with powerful jaws, but can start to take on deformations and cracks with sharp teeth.
The color of the toy is, as advertised, very helpful in finding it if you toss it outside. Even the green one (which I got) is easy to see since it's more vibrant and somewhat flourescent. On the whole, I like Bionic's “stuffer” better since it's more of a buzzle and the shape has no narrow/weaker areas to chew through.
This is a very durable toy that my dogs enjoy. The manufacturer's specifications include: "Splinter-free design and no sharp edges. Can be used as a chew, fetch, or tug toy. Open center can be stuffed with treats. Easy to see color. Medium - For dogs 15 to 35 lbs."
The toy design is simple and yet it engages my dogs. The ends are open and I will place treats on each end. The plastic does flex a little to accommodate treats and it is not a rigid toy. Bionic claims that the material used to make the bone is proprietary and is designed to be ingested in small pieces without hurting the animal. The toy is also dishwasher safe and can be cleaned regularly. This toy is tapered in the middle and flares at each end. The bright green is indeed a high visibility color. My dogs love it and it is good to know that the toy is safe for them. Well done at five stars.
