A few minor issues I have: It is far noisier than any shaver I have owned. I have disturbed other household members when shaving early morning. The shaver had been described by some as aggressive. I can see the point here. I have a few skin blemishes that are irritated by it. I have tried to minimise this by wetting my face before I shave and applying moisturiser after shaving. On the plus side, of all shavers I have owned, this one takes the least amount of time to shave, is the easiest to clean, and most importantly cuts the closest you can get from an electric shaver.
Last quarter of 2019, the said Philips shaver was running out of battery fast that it made me decide to look for a new one. However because of the price and my experience on the shaver, I was kinda questioning the value of it. Yes I can have a quick shave now and then but the satisfaction was never really there.
One day in December I saw this sale on Amazon for this Arc5. The price was good enough, and I saw it was given a lot of good reviews. After some reading and watching of reviews later I bought it. I was saying to myself that if this turns to be another Philips at least I did not have to pay that much. To be honest I was excited because ai never had another electric shaver other than the Philips which lasted me for more than a decade (kudos to Philips).
When it arrived, I immediately tried it. And it blew me away. I never realised what I had was so mediocre. Arc5 shaved so close it felt like my 5-blade razor. It was really fast too. I mean, it did not take me a lot of time to finish shaving. The test really is when I kiss my kids, they always complain about my prickly face, even after I used my Philips. Not on the Arc5. I am so happy with this purchase and I can also now avoid buying blades for my other razor. The trimmer is good too, it ran through my sideburns easily, no going back and forth. Cleaning is also a breeze. One of the things I like with the Arc5 was it is a wet and dry shaver, now I do not have to “schedule” when to shave.
The only minor negative probably so far is when it arrived, out of the box, the shaver had no charge at all, flat, zero, and had to charge it first before I can use it. Otherwise it is my best shaver.
Might work with different types of skin.
It says In the box to try for a month, but I just don’t have 20 spare minute to shave every morning...

This is my experience between the newest Panasonic Arc 5 and the Braun Series 9. I never purchase the cleaning system that both brands offer because I think they are an unnecessary expense. If you use liquid soap on the foils and rinse after use, the blades should be clean and fresh for the next use.
Panasonic has a somewhat quieter motor than the Braun, which is strange because the Panasonic operates at 14,000 cycles per minute as opposed to Braun's 10,000 cpm. For the Panasonic that's 233 cycles per second. That's amazing speed for the linear power plant.
Both mustache/sideburn trimmers leave much to be improved because the cutters are blocked by the shaving heads. A slight advantage goes to Panasonic because it's more visible and useful.
As the model Arc 5 states in its name, Panasonic has five cutting foils compared to Brauns Series 9 which has four. I assume the extra foil gives more coverage and opportunity to cut wayward or difficult hairs. I will say that five should be the limit. I can't imagine having more blades like the race in the manual razor market where five seems to be the limit. If a company adds more foils, you will need a wrist brace to handle the increased weight.
The Panasonic shaver floats on a 2 axis head where it goes front to back and side to side. The Braun is limited to only front to back. This is a major benefit where the heads more closely follow the contours of your face, chin and neck. Both units allow you to lock the head for sensitive or specific areas.
The LED screen on the Panasonic shows time used in minutes and seconds and then the percentage of battery strength. There's an option to use the motor full speed or allow the motor to vary the speed depending on the thickness of the beard. The Braun is much simpler and has five blue bars to show battery level.
Although subjective, I would say the Braun does have a better cosmetic appearance. Being generous, I would say that's why the Braun costs $70 more than the Panasonic. They both shave well but I would give the advantage to Panasonic. It gets the neck/throat area almost as close as a blade. It cuts through the whiskers without snagging or getting bogged down.
A better shave at a lower cost should appeal to performance and budget conscious buyers. Panasonic wins this competition.
Love this thing !!! I am always in a hurry usually in the morning and need a quick a and smooth shave and this is the answer!
I have a heavy growth of hair on my face. The hair itself is tough and bit stiff. My beard needs the best shaver I can get. It grows quickly so I shave every day, sometime twice.
My number one thing I'm looking for is a shaver that can shave closer than any thing else so far. Mission accomplished here.
It shaves closer than any thing I have used before. However I get a bit of a razor burn
-like issue sometimes from this shaver. To get close I find I have to go over the same area more times than I would previously do with my last shaver. But the point, in part here, is that this shaver can get closer and closer shave as you do so BUT you may experience this 'fazor burn' that I have mentioned..
But I do get this kinda razor burn. To try and prevent it, I find I have to scrub my face with an exfoliating product BEFORE shaving. My skin is super clean then and the shaver seems to 'work better'. If I don't really scrub my face the shaver seems to not glide across my skin as it seems to kinda 'stick to me' for moments-not sliding across the skin. So it's a bit odd in my experience with other shavers. I've tried shaving wet and I got a less close shave so I'm working on this issue.
Having said that.....
My beard is a very demanding beard if you want to be shaving it off every day. This shaver is the closest electric that I have ever used. It's not perfect but it shaves close. Love the meter on it, letting you know how much charge you have left. Speaking of which, it charges very quickly indeed! Nice feel in the hands. Comes with a very good pop-up precision trimmer. Oh and the shaver times each shave is that is important or useful for you? I also have no issues cleaning this shaver. Which I do with every use. I have read of people using cans of air etc. Not sure why that was necessary? I rinse it with water and use alcohol to sterilize the cutters and then whip it all off. Takes seconds to do.
I recommend this shaver.
