Good suspenseful build up, keeping the reader engaged, to at last the culprit, (Ashcroft) meets his just desserts. Not without a twist at the end though..
Interesting that the focus is all on Ashcroft, with no additional criminal distractions in this book.

I have read all of Joy Ellis' books and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. Likeable characters, great plot, a twist at the end.

What a joy to read Joy Ellis new book. The story flowed well. I was anxious at times and felt that I was RightThere. So delighted to have an epilogue instead of being left wondering. Thanks Joy Ellis.

This was the last book in the Jackman and Evans series and I have just binge listened to all 6 over the past month. Easy listening and of course Richard Armitage's narration is excellent as he brings all the characters to life.

I found the wonderful Joy Ellis books by accident and I have to say it's been a happy accident.
The characters are sympathetic and believable, with strong women, who are intelligent and compassionate. Marie Evans is a delight and with a turn of phrase it's impossible not to enjoy.
The plots are solidly crafted, and held together with zippy pacing and and understanding of how policing works.
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the novels and and the Nikki Galena novels. It's a treat to find an author who writes with flair and understanding....I look forward to the next book by Ms Ellis

Have just read another brilliant book by Joy Ellis.Having read all Joy Ellis books, what I like about them is they written about somewhere I know, born and bred in Norfolk, the fens are not that far away. I feel I know the character 's personally. Once I start reading I cannot put the book down. Thank you so much from an 82 year old. Brenda Redfern

If I could give it ten stars, I would!

It’s hard to say something different about this book that I haven’t already said about all the others. I like the DI Jackman stories and like the characters, Jackman, Marie and all the others involved in his team. Rory the Pathologist appears in both Jackman and Galena books, and sometimes other characters cross-appear too. Although I’ve enjoyed all Joy’s books, this one definitely has the edge. It kept my nose glued to my kindle as I hurried to read on – what was going to happen next? I liked the human touch of the family struggling on the farm on the Fens and greatly admiring of how they helped at the end. If I could give ten stars, I would! Well done, Joy, loved it.

I was disappointed with this book and had it been the first one of hers I had read I would not have read any more . Didn’t captivate me and where I would literally devour her books I found myself getting bored and kept putting it down .... I found all the information on guns boring and you had to know the characters to see what was going on . The one bright spot was Rory ... he always makes me giggle but his appearances were the only high spots of this book .
