The Plugable USB Audio Adapter
The Plugable USB Audio Adapter is an easy way to instantly add a headphone and microphone jack to almost any USB-enabled PC or laptop. Compact and durable, the USB-AUDIO installs without needing additional drivers. Simply plug the adapter in, set it as your default device, and listen to your favorite tunes and record with ease!
A good companion for desktops and laptops, the USB-AUDIO also shines with development boards like Raspberry Pi, and Beaglebone, where convenient audio access may be needed.
The USB-AUDIO is also a great option if you have a system with broken ports, where speakers aren’t available, or where a USB solution would be more convenient. The adapter is an affordable alternative to hiring a technician, replacing computer parts, or buying a new PC or laptop.
The USB-AUDIO is a simple plug-and-play experience with no additional drivers necessary!
After receiving the audio adapter, simply plug it into your desired system. Go to your Control Panel, Settings or System Preferences and set the USB audio device as the default input and output device. You may also need to set the USB-AUDIO as the default device in specific apps such as Discord, Skype, and Audacity.
Depending on your platform, the USB-AUDIO can add audio output, but the microphone input may not work. Most operating systems support multiple audio devices, but only allow a single device to be enabled at a time for one function, either audio input or output.
Please note that cars and TVs are not compatible with this adapter, and that in some scenarios the USB-AUDIO can add audio output, but not a microphone input.
Connectors: Standard USB Type A to computer, 1x 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) TRS stereo output jack, 1x 3.55 mm (1/8 inch) TRS stereo microphone input jack.
Solid State System SSS1629 Chip for widest compatibility.
Leave connected to a USB hub or dock for easy access.
Bypass a faulty sound card or audio port.
Adapter body is a compact, lightweight, and durable black anodized metal.
USB bus powered, no external power needed.
The USB-AUDIO accepts TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) jacks commonly found in headsets and microphones.
A TS microphone requires a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mono to stereo adapter to adapt the microphone from TS to TRS.
XLR based microphones, and 1/4 instrument plugs will not work even if adapted to 3.5mm TRS.
Compatible with any standard USB Audio Class enabled system including:
Windows 10, 8.1/8, 7, Vista, XP, Linux, Mac OS X and Chrome OS, and many Android systems.
USB enable your existing 3.5mm audio headphones, headset, speakers, or microphone.
No drivers necessary.
Not compatible with car audio systems, TVs, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Your mileage may vary but this was my experience
In my opinion, not worth getting if you are going to be trying to use a condenser unless you are getting phantom power too. It still works but not as well as other solutions available.

So far, this has worked flawlessly and is excellent for the low price I paid.
It is worth noting that the width of the device means that it will block any horizontally adjacent USB ports, unless you use a USB extension cable. This is not a problem for the configuration of ports on my laptop, but may be an issue for others.
Thank you Plugable
The device itself works really well and is no problem - just doesn't record stereo from the mike. I've given it and them 5 stars for tat reason.
Basically I needed it because I purchased a brand new Lenovo ThinkCentre and like a lot of new tiny PC's nowadays, they seem to have stopped putting a 3.5mm socket for speakers on the back of the case? Just a headphone socket on the front. I didn't really want a wire hanging out of the front and didn't want to have to buy a new set of Bluetooth speakers, so had a look round for a USB adaptor to plug in the back instead. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a thing you could get and very glad i found this product which worked perfectly without any issues at all, plug it in to a free USB slot, plug your speaker cable in and away you go.
+ Easy to use
+ Reduced noise interference
- Feel a bit cheap

Search online for guides to using a USB sound card with a Raspberry Pi, you just need to comment out one line in a config file and reboot, then it just works.
Compared to my old adaptor, the sound coming through the same headphones with this adaptor is very quiet and the microphone sound quality is pathetic. I tried to compensate with microphone gain increase software, but all I get is loud hissing and not much increase in voice volume.
I ended up going back to my old adaptor and putting up with the loose jack for the time being.
