Power anyone?

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience purchasing this monitor. I plugged in the monitor and connected it with the type c to type c for monitor to laptop connection and the USB Type C cable for power. I could not get the monitor to stay on for more than 3 seconds. All that I could accomplish is that the monitor turns on, says “no signal”, then promptly goes into “power saving mode” and shuts down. I even try to hit menu while I see the “no signal” message to see if I can do anything else with the monitor, no go. The customer service tried to help, but the language barrier was an issue. They kept trying to help the "connection" to computer - which I probably could have figured out if the monitor would have stayed on longer than 3 seconds. I returned this monitor.

2 weeks later, Newsoul wanted to make sure that I was a satisfied customer, so they sent me another monitor to test out. After reading a few other reviews to see how I could make this work, I realized that the type C to type C could only work for power, not for display. So, I needed to use the HDMI cable, however my computer only has a displayport, no HDMI. After picking up an HDMI to display port adapter, my monitor was working as described. Color is great. I am running Windows 7, the only difficulty is that when moving the mouse from my laptop monitor to the Newsoul display, I have to go from the bottom right corner to the top left corner of the extended monitor. It took some getting use to, but still manageable. My son hooked it up to his MacBook Pro and did not have this issue, he was able to move from side to side, no problem.

I have a habit of impulse buying electronic devices. Usually after a short time they prove their effectiveness of fail to do the same.
I bought this monitor because I have alot of downtime at work and watching movies on my phone (note 8) still leaves alot to be desired. I bought another screen last year as a pi monitor for retropie and was other wise happy with its capabilities.
Until...
While it displays in FHD+ the 10.1" screen still has it's own limits. As the added feature of touch screen didn't really draw me in (I have a touchscreen laptop that I forget has this included "bonus despite having it for over 3 years.
The appeal of constantly wiping fingerprints off a device meant for viewing I quickly let my portable entertainment device dreams fade like the Trinitron.
Suddenly after the memory/battery/unknown failure of the day, I stumbled upon a glimmer of pastime bliss in the form of a 4k monitor.
I didn't need it but I've wanted to live in a 4k world but the process seemed more of a novelty novel as there were a ton of upscaled rereleased but not much content that appealed to me.
With lots of ports connectivity is covered including USB-c (hdmi) usability and Power Delivery. Everything is working and functional as expected and even though I didn't know I wanted it I am happy with my purchase.

Compact IPS screen easy to view at any angle, touchscreen works but not with our older NVR

I got this to use with our Network Video Recorder (NVR) so I could ditch the large monitor which took up a ton of shelf space and was hard to see due to a poor viewing angle. I also specifically choose a touchscreen so I could ditch the mouse and keyboard as well, but unfortunately that part didn't work out. The touchscreen works great when plugged into a Windows 10 PC but no touches are detected when plugged into the DVR's USB port. I assume that's because the DVR is only expecting either a mouse or keyboard. Too bad :( I'm still very happy with the screen, though. It's small like a tablet which is exactly the size I was looking for: small enough that it really doesn't take up any extra room in the network closet but large enough to easily see four security cams at once. The screen is an IPS screen so very crisp and easy to see at any angle.

I also like that it has a full-size HDMI port on the side so I didn't have to mess with any mini-HDMI to HDMI cables. The port is on the side but it comes with a second HDMI port which can be plugged in on the back of the screen which you can use if you don't want the HDMI cable sticking out of the side of the screen. It also comes with two micro-USB cords (one for power and one for touchscreen control), a USB power plug, an HDMI cable, a ballpoint pen with a stylus on the back end, a microfiber cloth, and a pair of legs so it can be stood up or mounted (plus screws and a little screwdriver). Pretty much everything I needed to use it instantly.

The menu buttons are located on the back which is pretty typical nowadays even with large screens. Since you can't see what they are from the front you'll just have to memorize their positions if you plan to use them frequently. I have no such plans. When I first plugged the screen in to my NVR I did the HDMI cable and the USB cable to the touch port, saving the power USB port for last. To my surprise the screen came on and I could see the camera feeds without even plugging in the USB power port, so apparently the touchscreen port can double as a power port. Plugging both in made no difference in touch screen ability with the NVR, however. The good news is that I can use a single USB cord to power it and the cord can be plugged in directly to the NVR's USB port so I don't have yet another cable running all the way to the power outlet.

I know this screen is specifically made for a Raspberry Pi but it works great for my application of a space-saving screen for our security cameras NVR. I had recently organized my network closet and getting rid of the giant hard-to-see screen was a big step. I was bummed that the touchscreen part didn't work with the NVR but I don't blame the screen for that. It just means I'll have to get a compact keyboard with trackpad until I'm ready to upgrade the NVR to one that's touchscreen compatible. I'm even thinking of getting a second one of these screens for our media server mini PC.

Portable 2nd monitor solution to be more productive with a laptop

I'm pairing this with my Microsoft Surface Book 2 15in for work and productivity on the go and office. While at 13in it's smaller than my laptop screen, my preference was for a compact screen that was more portable and lighter.

What surprised me most was how thin and easy to pair it was. It essentially looks and feels like an android tablet. You get everything you need out of the box to ensure you can pair it to most devices extremely simply. Pairing it was as simple as connecting the USB C to USB wire from the monitor to my laptop. I didn't need to use the charger provided at all. No additional setup or software was needed. I tweaked the color and brightness a bit from the settings on the monitor itself to more closely match the laptop, but aside from that, it was good.

I wanted a touch monitor as it paired well with my touch screen experience I was already used to. It's great to be able to pinch to zoom and scroll with gestures. The folio/tent cover allows you to get your preferred viewing angle while also being a screen protector when not in use.

Honestly, this was an impulse buy for me. I hoped I would get it and it would be horrible so I could send it back and get a refund. The problem is...it's actually REALLY good. The brightness is fine for my use, the colors are vibrant, the contrast is great, and there's no backlight bleed to be found. The speakers are a bit on the quiet side but I'm using it both as a secondary display on a portable gaming PC and as a portable monitor for my XBox One S. For the PC, the speakers don't matter. For the Xbox, they're fine if I'm gaming in a quiet room by myself. If I'm gaming in a noisier environment, or want bigger sound, I have the option of plugging headphones into either the display itself or my XBox controller. Either way, I'm good to go. The only complaint I have is that my XBox booted into low resolution mode because it was previously connected to a 4k TV. Low res mode boots into 640x480 and this display does not seem to like that, resulting in this weird double image that bounces up and down and has lots of distortion. The only solutions I know of are to disable 4k ahead of time, via the XBox settings, or just make your way to the settings to switch the display resolution to 1080p. While it's awkward, it's not impossible to do this while the display is freaking out. With all of the benefits this display provides, this feels like a very small sacrifice. I'm not even a little bit mad that a modern LCD panel in 2020 doesn't support 640x480. I'm keeping this thing and it's now a permanent addition to my gaming backpack.
