Let's cut the tech jargon. The Smartlav+ is designed to be used with your phone. It won't work in other things like your PC or a GoPro or Drift Ghost S. You need an adapter and this is the one you need. Only it isn't.
The angled connector won't allow it to connect properly to recessed mic ports.I ended up trimming the rubber surround with a paring knife to make it fit.
Unfortunately, I get the feeling they tried to just be a bit too clever and justify the silly high cost of two bits of metal and a bit of wire.
I ended up buying an alternative mic (Blixxo) because it had a straight line connector included for a third of the price overall. Hope you're listening Rode.
Initially I bought a generic cable that sold itself as an SC3 replacement purely due to quicker delivery times. It didn't work on any of my gear leaving me wondering if the smartLav+ was broken.
The SC3 became available and works on my Android, MacBook, Nikon and Zoom H2n recorder.
It's not cheap for what it is but it is the difference between this mic. working and not working, I have since found that not all TRS to TRRS cables are wired in the same way.
I am using the SC3 to connect my Rode SmartLav+ mic to my Rode wireless go.
The SC7 connects my wireless go to my SC6 which connects to my iPhone
So many adaptors so little time
Great sound quality and value for money
But, it's a bit pricey for what it is! It's well enough built - but the cable has with no additional protection (e.g. braiding), the connectors are plastic (which is fine, but not as durable as metal, say). You can be pretty sure that the QC is excellent, as is the case with all RØDE products, and this item is unlikely to be defective. But I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives available...
