We're not just losing the wild world. We're forgetting it. We're no longer noticing it. We've lost the habit of looking and seeing and listening and hearing.
But we can make hidden things visible, and this audiobook features 23 spellbinding ways to bring the magic of nature much closer to home.
Mammals you never knew existed will enter your world. Birds hidden in treetops will shed their cloak of anonymity. With a single movement of your hand you can make reptiles appear before you. Butterflies you never saw before will bring joy to every sunny day. Creatures of the darkness will enter your consciousness. And as you take on new techniques and a little new equipment, you will discover new creatures and, with them, new areas of yourself that had gone dormant. Once put to use, they wake up and start working again. You become wilder in your mind and in your heart. Once you know the tricks, the wild world begins to appear before you.
For anyone who wants to get closer to the nature all around them and bring it back into focus, this is the perfect listen.

It is a slightly different approach to the norm in potentially imparting the fascination of wildlife watching, written with obvious passion, and I think it would be fair to say that the style may not appeal to everyone. But the general message may.
Unusually, each chapter opens with a short quote from a famous author, including C. S Lewis, J. K. Rowling & Tolkien. The writing that follows aims to qualify the reason for the quote, and anything that starts & closes with ‘The Lion, The Witch & the Wardrobe’ will get my attention!
From Chapter 23: ‘DEEP MAGIC FROM BEFORE THE DAWN OF TIME’:
🦁 ‘… ‘It means,’ said Aslan, ‘that though the witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of Time’.'
&
🦋 ‘…You can savour this magic: recognising the song of a song thrush, finding a slow worm, noticing that a deer has crossed your path, seeing a small tortoiseshell butterfly flying past intent on its own urgent business, noticing a robin drinking from the plastic pond you installed yourself. All these things enrich you, but even as you enjoy them you are beginning to be aware of a deeper truth. These things you sought are only the beginning. They are the symptoms of an altering condition…’
