I also own an Echo Show 8 device. I thought that this will be the perfect pairing, but I was totally wrong. When motion is detected at the front door, I am notified really quickly, but that is where it all ends. If I then ask my Echo Show 8 device to "show my front door", the stupid system needs to make a connection to the Ring.com mothership first. I have fast 100mbps HFC NBN cable service, and if I am lucky, by the time the Echo Show 8 has made a connection with Ring.com and then has then displayed a live view from my ring camera, I am lucky if I am not seeing the back of the delivery man's OH&S hi vis vest passing my letterbox at the end of my driveway as he walks away from the house. About 1 out of every 10 times, the system times out trying to connect to Ring.com. Such a huge disappointment.
As another example, if I get the "motion detected at the front door" notification on all my echo device around the house goes off, and I say to my Echo Show 8, "show my front door" to see who is leaving the house, I am lucky for it to start showing the live video before my wife for example has reached the back of her car parked out on the street. It is just too slow.
It is not so bad if the person at the front door presses the doorbell, but even then, the ability to talk to the person at the door is far from satisfactory. Often the sound is garbled and full of dropouts, like a really bad mobile phone connection, or worse. This is despite me having a wired ethernet connection to a "point of presence" wireless range extender just 3 metres from the front door.
Frankly, if the reliance on the woefully slow and non-necessary ring.com was not a product killer, then the flaky voice performance is certainly the straw that breaks the camel's back.
2) It just wasn't reliable enough. Some times the motion would have to be walked past 5 times before it would be picked up and other times it was quick. But also some times it would just circle for 20 seconds trying to load. Which really is why you buy it, to get a view of the door.
Please note the above reliability issues had nothing to do with wireless range or wifi vs mobile data as we did loads of testing and it would differ 7 minutes later.
I was really disappointed in the product. I expected such a big brand to have a better product. Sorry to say, do it recommend, am returning this and getting something else.
It tells me whos in the drive way, by the letter box whoever it is walking or in a car.
The range of the camera is super and crystal clear, the pictures let us know what's happening at the property entrance.
The Ring service has options available for storing the information in their data base.
Only thing that I think should be included in future special offers is the information about how the door bell can be improved for people to decide if they want to buy the system additions like chime and transformer to connect to power supply . Looking at the local hardware store supplying similar products would cost more that I have spent on buying the chime and transformer.

I was able to file a police report and send them this video. The clarity is spot on for me. I received notification that a person was detected, logged on to the device at work, shared the video with 5 minutes.
Well worth the money I think, the battery life is good as well.

The Good:
- Viewing Angle: sees everything I wanted it to from a viewing standpoint.
- Clarity: Is pretty good, even at night.
- Neighborhood Alerts: Depending on your view of things it's nice or it's annoying. I found it nice to know when there were porch pirates around stealing things, but it was always the next day. The police alerts were nice and those I appreciated. The amount of theft happening around me is staggering, so that was a bit unnerving. But I guess I'd rather know.
The Meh:
- Battery Life: I have to have all setting maxed (motion sensitivity, motion frequency) for it to register anything and that chews battery.
- Support: They did ship me the missing piece (still haven't received yet) but they "access" your amazon account that is tied to the doorbell. I wasn't thrilled about that. You provide them "temporary" access but there was no way to know when or if that was revoked. I just unlinked my account, hoping that would be enough. That could be poor communication on their part as to how that all is handled but really they shouldn't be doing it at all. If it hadn't been for the resolution, I'd have put this in the next category.
The Not:
- Motion Detection: Is my number one issue with this system. I have been trying to optimize settings every day. The motion detection is garbage. I have done every recommended tweak out there. Unless it's max sensitivity and max frequency, nothing is picked up. Even then, it picks up cars going by (with the detection zone no where near the road!) and it DOESN'T pick up anyone walking in the detection zone!
I've spent days testing and tweaking and no dice. I have packages that get dropped off right in front of it without it catching the delivery person. Pointless to have this thing since that is what I got it for (lots of theft in our area).
If someone presses the button it will start to record, but.. yea thieves aren't nice enough to let you know they are stealing your packages. The voice works well enough to talk to the person at your door (assuming you know they are there..) but it's just a nice to have, not a core function for me.
- The Ring App: Tells me I have great wifi connection signal, yet I still have issues with lagging notifications and the app not updating while in use. Also, if you use this on multiple devices, it doesn't update in the other devices if you make a change. After removing it off devices down to one, I still have the aforementioned issues.
-The contents of the Package: I was missing a drillbit and had to contact support. I get that stuff happens, but to me that's a hassle I didn't need. I'm waiting now for the replacement to arrive so I can include it when I send it back. Luckily, I was able to attach the doorbell with two screws but it's not very secure. I could have bought a bit set I guess but it was supposed to come with one so .. why spend more money?
Overall there is a decent start here but it's definitely not worth the money, headaches, and time in my experience. Other people have had better luck. Or maybe they just don't expect much (or don't know what footage they are missing..). For me this is a Hard Pass, sadly.
