This will be bag #4 for us! These bags have plenty of space for family trips, and they collapse in the storage closet nicely when we're not using them. I've had the first bag for about a year and durability hasn't been an issue. I take mine on road trips and domestic flights.
I bought this for my 12 yr. old, but I want one! He wanted the bright blue to spot easier at luggage claim. We thought he would have to check it while flying JetBlue, because according to their online carry-on guideline it was too big. Actually it fit at the airport "Does my bag fit?" contraption and he carried it on with no issues...yeah! Also, I bought packing cubes and they fit great in this bag. He did say it rocked side to side on him a couple of times while rolling it, but he just stopped and started again to make it stop. He also didn't mind carrier it. The handles and straps are sturdy. He had enough packed for a 10 day trip. We weighed it packed, and it came in under 20 lbs. I didn't think there was much of a odor to the bag, but I always add a dryer sheet under the zipper flap in the bottom of my luggage. It smells nice and keeps the clothes smelling fresh. I suppose you could spray your favorite cologne or use essential oils to scent it, but I really didn't think it was bad. The front curved pocket can hold something the size of a DVD movie in it's case. (I did try it) There is a straight zipper pocket below that one that could hold something thin and flat, like about the size of a postcard. The pockets become more difficult to use depending on how packed your bag is. I also bought the black one for my older son. Happy travels everyone.
I can't give it five stars because of a few design flaws. The wheels are hard plastic, which means they make a _LOT_ of noise! Even on smooth surfaces the wheels make so much noise you can hear them echoing throughout the terminals. Also because of the hard plastic wheels the handle shakes and vibrates constantly making your hands numb after long walks. The other problem are the straps. Only the shoulder straps are removable, the rest flop around and get caught on things. Would have been better to make all of the large straps removable. If it wasn't for these flaws this bag would be ideal. It's lighter than I thought it would be, and being able to switch from shoulder strap to wheeled cart in an instant is great.
Love the color. Size was perfect. Wheels and bar worked well but the darned zipper failed mid trip on my first leg of my European travels. I had to buy a new bag during my trip so I didn’t lose my belongings. I also had to mail things home, including clothes because this perfect sized bag had a zipper that doesn’t work. The bag wasn’t even half full and the zipper wouldn’t hold shut. I really wanted to like this bag but I am very upset that I had to leave the bag in Greece!
First of all the piece was larger than I expected, roomy, with added features like pockets and securing belts on it as well as a shoulder strap to hook on if you want to carry it. Strong and sturdy and a beautiful color. It easily holds a weekend worth of clothing with room left over. Now the flip side, unfortunately, is that (and I read this in other reviews) while it rolls okay even though the wheels are not very big for the size of the piece, it will not sit up by itself. In other words, if you fill it with your items and set it on it's end to reach for something, it falls right over. This becomes a pain at the airport when you're reaching for your ticket or passport and you try to lean it somewhere or stand it upright and it tips right over. The first time I used it, I took it out of my car and tried to set it upright instead of laying it down on the rainy pavement, while I got something else out of my car and it tipped over.
It seems this one flaw which effects the usability of the item could have been remedied. I would buy a couple more of these for gifts and one more for myself were it not for that one problem.
Bought 4 of these for the grandkids at Christmas. Such a great value! Good, sturdy zippers and wheels. Nice handle so the littles can drag their own suitcases wherever they go. Nice selection of colors. Several zipped pouches on the outside for important gear.
This duffle bag looks good, but is of little practical use. There is no handle on the bottom to do a 2 hand lift. The wheels are set too close together to be stable when rolling. The hardware is plastic and too fragile to be of any serious use. The lower strap clip broke after the 2nd use. The wheel mounts rotated in by about 20 degrees contributing to the "tippy" behavior when rolling. What is the deal with the tread pattern on the tires? All that does is create an annoying buzz when rolling.
I travel home by plane during the school year from NorCal to SoCal pretty often, almost every month. I definately wanted a bag that I could roll through the airport because I was packing a lot of things and hurting my back carrying two bags. It doesn't match PERFECTLY to the dimensions of a carry-on for United Airlines but I have taken it with me before and it does fit in the overhear compartment, I just don't over stuff it; I try to leave room so that it can be squished. It is very helpful and holds a lot though which I love. It only has the wheels on the one side, and nothing else on the opposite so I can't stand it up, i have to lay it flat. The color is amazing and matches the picture. Overall I would definately recommend.
