There was noise introduced by many of these other leads, admittedly at a low level, but definitely audible (hum). This lead does not suffer the same issue. I cut open one of the "other" leads, and it was constructed correctly (properly shielded cable), but persumably the copper wasn't up-to-grade as it still performed badly.
Not only does this lead perform well - it also is the the longest and the thinnest cable - making it much more practical to carry around.
The cable had only beed used twice before today but after doing a sound test, which was fine, the cable decided not to work anymore so had to revert to using the mic on camera with the short spiral cable.
Have tried it on various devices and - nothing!
