After my first transatlantic journey, when coming off the luggage belt the case was dented in more than one place and scratched. It looked a 'well used' case after only one journey. The dents do push out from the inside, but it is quite a shock when you first see it. The second transatlantic flight resulted in the same outcome but this time the dent on the spine of the case didn't push out and the interior compartmental fabric and zip were torn and the stitching pulled away. I contacted Samsonite UK regarding warranty or repairs and the only repair centre is in Maidenhead. A collection fee is charged to send the case away. The suitcase was deemed 'unrepairable' and as it is not a manufacturers fault but 'airline damage', the warranty stops there. The claim for damage should have been made through the airline and most have a 7 day reporting policy. Lesson learned, report any damage immediately at the airport.
If you want a very lightweight suitcase then the decision you have is 'would a fabric one would offer exactly the same 'protection' for your garments etc. as this very lightweight 'shell'. The cost of a fabric case versus this expensive 'spinner'?
It arrived promptly however I was a little confused how to open the case at first as I couldn't find the key for the lock. As it so happens, it has a key hole but comes with no key. This is meant for airport security to unlock your case without needing the code so they can check your things. To open the TSA lock initially you press in the discreet side button and afterwards you can set a unique lock combination code.
Its pricier than its competitors but you get what you pay for with this product.
Easy to wheel, strong, good sturdy zips, good internal compartments, look smart when I have to come and go from the office with it - highly recommend.
Auch bei der Beschreibung der Änderung der Nummer des Zahlenschlosses wurde sehr gespart, da muß man schon genau auf das kleine Kärtchen schauen, bis es sich dann (total logisch allerdings) erschließt.
Ergänzung: Habe jetzt auch eine Nr. kleiner, sprich 100 Liter, 75 cm. Die Koffer haben jetzt 4 bzw. 2 Urlaube hinter sich, also 8/4 Flüge plus Transport. Stabil sind die Koffer, aber auch empfindlich gegen Kratzer. Echte Beschädigungen oder Dellen hatte ich bisher nicht, obwohl ich schon zusehen durfte, wie der Koffer beim Einladen ins Flugzeug vom oberen Bereich des Bandes fiel, ca 3 Meter auf den Asphalt.
Kleiner Tip an andere, die ebenfalls 2 Koffer dieser Baureihe besitzen: Beim Transport auf dem Gepäckkarren immer die Oberseiten gegeneinander legen, niemals eine Oberseite auf die Rückseite (mit der Griffschiene) legen, da sonst die Koffer gegeneinander verrutschen.
Unico piccolo difetto riscontrato nel bastone estraibile del manico, che nelle versioni precedenti risultava un po' più robusto ed era provvisto sia di appendono portagiacca, sia di un pratico per fermare sulla valigia giacche o piccole borse( in questo modello purtroppo è stato tolto )
