I've been a Sapkowski fan for several years and was excited when Netflix released the Witcher series. Unfortunately the series digresses too much from the essence of the novels. For readers rather than watchers, Season of Storms is an interesting book and one that fans of Geralt will enjoy.

This prequel is a better read than the other novels which were part of a much larger story arc. If you had not read the 'Witcher series' then this prequel should be read first as it introduces the characters and provides a context for the subsequent story arc novels.

This book was fantastic. Finished reading it today, great moments from a great writer. Connects the story with the other novels. I saw one jackass giving it a thumbs down review becuase the characters have non commital elements within the story and the writing feels awkward.

Lessons to learn here is....
1. This book ties into the short stories within the first two books and therefor has no connection to the main witcher saga, only in elements concerning few characters and underlying plots.
2. DONT read this book before the others, read it after or youre not going to understand what the hell is going on, this is obvious
3. Lesson number 2 is so important i felt it necessary to repeat it. Read the other books first. This is a standalone story which has underlying themes and links to Geralts destiny. You will not understand the end of this book if you havent read the other works.

All in all a very good read from one of my favourite authors. In my mind certainly up there with Tolkien and people like R R Martin.

'The Witcher' series by Andrzej Sapkowski is one of my favourite fantasy series, and 'Season Of Storms' is a very welcome return to world of the Witcher.

The story is a standalone and is set before the main saga of Ciri and the Blood Of Elves, and has the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, having his swords stolen and imprisoned on a trumped up charge. Once released, Geralt tries to track down his swords and the culprit who stole them. Along the way, the usual Witcher hijinks ensue; seducing beautiful sorceresses, slaying monsters, dealing with mad wizards and of course, saving his friend Dandelion at least once. Add in some of the intrigues of the court of the King, and some supernatural goings on, and it's good return of 'The Witcher'.

As always the world building in the medieval setting is very much in depth and always a joy to read, as is the writing, which is full of the humour, sarcasm and horror that I know and love from from the rest of the series.

It's a great and enjoyable read and a good addition if you're a fan of the series. But if you've not read any of the books yet, I'd recommend starting with the short story books first; 'The Last Wish' (my favourite of the series) and 'Sword of Destiny' as an introduction to the series, before diving into the rest of the books.

If you go for the audiobook option, it's once again read by the awesome Peter Kenny. His narration adds a whole lot more and really brings the story to life, and is absolutely recommended!

As the main story of The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia finished with the book 'Lady Of The Lake', as author Sapkowski has said (although the videogame 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' is set after the books), I hope it's not the end of stories featuring Geralt, Dandelion, Yennefer, Triss Merigold and more, and we get to revisit more of their adventures in the future.

I awaited the English translation of this book eagerly but also slightly nervously, having read a few less-than-enthusiastic reviews. It was not a disappointment. The writing is Sapkowski's trademark mix of humour, drama, bathos and pathos; the style is economical but vivid, the adventures are exciting with brilliantly-evoked action, and Geralt's character is as always mesmerising, understated yet unforgettable. I do hope this isn't Mr Sapkowski's last Witcher book. I know you have earned your relaxing retirement, but please take pity on your appreciative readers and spare some time away from fishing and cooking, Mr S....

Bought for a fan of the series. My brother is dyslexic and used to hate reading. I introduced him to this series after he loved 'The Witcher 3' video game so much. He got through these books with no troubles and he loves them. He's read the whole series through twice now. He now has a book shelf with even more books that he's read on them.
He now loves to read and realises that it isn't as hard as school used to make it :)

It's more of the Witcher

This book tracks Geralt as his swords are stolen and he tries to recover them. The story does not continue from the previous book in the series (the Lady of the Lake) but happens around the time of the first two books of short stories (The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny). The story has pace and some interesting characters, and if you like the rest of the Witcher saga (and the games) you will love this. One word of warning, though....I think it is best to read this after the other books. There are references here to characters and events that come from the other books, and I think this reads better if you already have some understanding of the world.
