Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) founded the Philosophical Research Society in 1934, a non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination of useful knowledge in the fields of philosophy, comparative religion and psychology. In his long career, spanning more than 70 years of dynamic public activity, Mr. Hall delivered over 8000 lectures in the United States and abroad, authored over 150 books and essays, and wrote countless magazine articles.

Many of Mr. Hall's lectures have been transcribed and are available as pamphlets; others were taped live, and the audio recordings are available on CD's as well. He is perhaps best known for his 1928 classic, "The Secret Teachings of All Ages," an encyclopedia of the world's wisdom traditions and symbolic disciplines.

Today, younger generations are re-discovering the works and words of Manly Hall, finding that the material he put forth so many years ago is still relevant and useful today. Mr. Hall's hope for humanity was to learn from the greatest minds of all times so that we may solve current problems - both in society and in the individual - today.

Misleading Title

First, I will admit that this book was an interesting read. I read it within a little over a week. It really grabbed my attention. So, this book was far from a boring or tedious read. Now with that being said, this is not what I had anticipated when I purchased the book. I was under the impression I would be gaining insight into "secretive and inside information," about America that I had never heard of before. The material in the book was not "secretive or eye-opening," because other authors have written about similar subject matter.

I am not familiar with mysticism, occult, or esoteric knowledge and information. If a person is interested in those subject matters this is the book for you to read.

I was fascinated with the Native American history, yet I had read it before.

I would recommend this book to other readers.

I agree with many of the reviews expressing some dismay that the book is not quite what the title implies, at least by way of expectations. However, I cannot say I was disappointed - not at all. This is my first foray into Manly Hall's writings - and it's not going to be my last. His writing style is such that he captures your attention as you flow through the words. As for the subject matter, there is much I already knew - but there was far much more that I did not know - and I found myself asking "why am I learning this now?" The book undoubtedly will lead me to ask other questions - if only to myself. That said, I cannot say enough about this book. I cannot imagine anyone getting it, ready it, and having any sense of regret.
