The good news however is if you haven’t brought this for voice command, the sensibo app for the mobile phone works perfectly. No issues.
Our home environment has 8 Alexa devices and all the Sensibo's are connected straight to that. We have setup our Automated home with designated areas so "Master", "Theatre", "Bed Room", "Office". Then the devices are named depending on what they are "x Fan", "x Aircon", "x Lights", so for us, we simply say "Alexa, turn Master aircon on" or "Alexa, turn Master aircon off".
We have also gone through and setup climate react (aircon auto turns on when room exceeds 25 degrees between the hours of midnight and 6am), and location awareness as well.
Our environment is setup as per below:
Master - Climate React between 12AM - 6AM: If Temp > 25 Degrees, Cool room to 23 Degrees. If Room 23 Degrees, turn Aircon Off
Bedroom - Climate React 24/7 (stops the teen from leaving the aircon on all the time), if room less than 22 degrees, turn off
Living Room - If all devices outside of house, turn aircon off
Bird Room - If temperature above 27 degrees, turn aircon on. If Temperature 25 degrees, turn aircon off. (We keep our macaw indoors)
In addition to this, we also have routines setup "Alexa, prepare the Theatre", when this command is issued, it turns the aircon, lights and TV on in our theatre, ready to go.
App control and web is great. There are some things that the web can do better, and other things that the app can do better. Overall, the product works well. The only downside is price, so I recommend holding off for when they go on sale. I have never paid full price for a Sensibo and usually only buy them when there is a $30-50 off promo.
the product works great, everything set up easily and was exactly as expected

I mainly wanted it so I can use it with Alexa, it does work but the functions are limited. I can't seem to find a list of commands that actually work, they don't advertise it anywhere on their website.
I've marked it down a little because I will say "alexa turn the ac on" and alexa confirms the command but the sensibo led doesn't come on, usually have to ask it twice. My unit is placed 1 meter under the air con ir sensor so it's perfectly placed.
The app is a little poor aswell. They have a function to set climate control and its great you can set "feels like" rather then actual temperature but thees no way in the app to see what the current "feels like" temperature actually is? So it takes alot of guess work to actually fine tune the settings.
I think it's massively over priced aswell.
Setup of the Sensibo is fairly straight forward. Install the app, scan the QR code and away you go, although I had a few issues and needed to make a few attempts before I got it setup.
I've got it integrated with Google Home which works pretty well. Google Home see's it as a thermostat, so if you also have a Nest Thermostat and tell Google you're hot or cold, your AC will also turn on to whatever temperature Google Home has chosen for you.
Whilst it works pretty well for the most part, it has a critical flaw that other reviews and posts have noticed. Sending the commands are temperamental.
I've got my Sensibo mounted at horizontal alignment with the Air Con, about 5 meters away. 90% of the time, when I issue a command, it lights up and the Air Con does what it needs to. The other 10% of the time though, Sensibo lights up and nothing happens.
At first I thought it was a signal strength issue, so I temporarily moved it closer and in front of the IR port on the Air Con, but I still ran into the same issue. Looking around, it seems others experience this issue too, so I dont think its anything to do with my placement of the device. Its stuck in a fixed position which works 90% of the time..
The only other thing to mark it down on is the app. Whilst it works, its not particular intuitive, and its quite ugly with a lot of wasted space! As I believe the unit also lacks a thermometer, don't expect any thermostat like controls or readings as to what the room air temperature actually is.
It's a little underwhelming as a product to be honest, especially for the price. I'm pretty sure you can accomplish the same thing with Logitech Harmony devices. From what I can tell, all this device does is mimics your battery powered remote control.
UPDATE: Sensibo reached out to me after posting this review, and have shown me how to change the remote type my device is using. Since doing this, my limited tests seemed to have resolved the issues with sending commands.
The device itself is very easy to set up, just plug it in, open the Sensible app, scan the barcode, then point your remote at the Sensibo so it can discover your AC model.
Great product with great helpful support.
The initial installation/setup is the only part that is really terrible. The app (android) and Sensibo could not communicate to join my wireless network. After trying multiple times I went to their website which is not helpful either. Eventually I found a help page that shows how to connect to the device via wifi directly and the URL to enter into browser to use the browser to set it up. This worked!
If you are prepared to go through those hoops to get the device installed, then you will be rewarded by a really nice addition to your AirCon setup.
Instant recognition of my Amcor (probably would have worked with the other AC too, but that's now with my folks). Works every time by app, remotely, or voice control. Using the app to change to heat pump mode doesn't quite work yet, but I know an email or two will sort this out.
The app is well presented. You can see all functions and info easily and it's intuitive to use. Jumping in and out of Climate Control mode is very easy, as is adjusting it. Your commands not getting the expected response from your AC? Email them and they'll sort it out.
Quality product and service.
Long story short, it works. Not quite out of the box (I half expected this because my portable mini split A/C is a very rare model), but the excellent Support team (thanks Chloe and Kevin) performed a live recording session and added the support for my unit in a matter of one week. I will be buying another Sensibo for the other A/C shortly.
This is a unique device on the market in that it can give you *some* home automation for your "lower-end" A/C units (portable A/C, window A/C, cheaper A/C). To fully appreciate its power, please remember that Sensibo tries to add automation to the devices that were never built with any automation in mind. They ONLY feature a one-way control inetrface, meaning that they can be controlled via IR (which is what Sensibo replicates, sending an IR signal TO the a/c), but there is *no way* for Sensibo to get any information FROM the a/c - just as your TV remote has no way of displaying the current TV channel as it was never designed to do so.
(NOTE that among more expensive mini-split A/C's there actually IS a two-way IR link between the unit and the remote - you will identify those remotes by them having an LCD screen displaying the A/C info on them - and there are other products out there that make use of this feature. If you have one of these, by all means look at those other products and not Sensibo!)
So, please bear in mind that Sensibo has no way of knowing if its commands ever reached the A/C, or were correctly executed, and what state the A/c is in - it can't even tell whether your is on or off (even though I think this is very easy to fix, but I am yet to hear from Sensibo dev team). Therefore:
1. Keep it simple - at least at the start. stick to simple "on/off" commands rather than something complicated like "set to cool to 20C and fan to high".
2. Make sure the Sensibo box is installed in a location where the IR signal reliably reaches your A/C.
3. Avoid controlling your A/C with the stock remote or buttons on the unit while it is used with Sensibo, or if you do, be sure to undo all your manual changes (return the A/C to the same mode and temperature).
Failure to do so will almost surely cause the Sensibo to be out of sync with your A/C, which will confuse it (and yourself) and lead to bad experiences.
