Despite following well-used post-apocalyptic trends, Hopf has done a decent job.
The separate stories of characters converge nicely, and he paints a realistic view of life after the event.
Worth a read.

Disappointing....

This book is a prime example of why I never read books with less than a 100 reviews.
A good premise for a story, started off good, but by halfway through the book it became
obvious that it was very poorly written. Page after page of 'filler'. Doubt if I'll read another
of his books.

~~Tick Tock....the clock is ticking~~

It has been a few years since I read one of this author's novels. And, I am glad that I found him again.
Just imagine being behind a 20 foot wall for the majority of your life...That is how little Hannah has lived after the H5N7 Virus surfaced. The question remains as to whether or not there really is a cure for this flu outside Deliverance.
This is fast paced novel and action abounds on nearly every page. It is also multi-layered and has an excellent plot. The characters are all 'fleshed' out (some more than others!) and the reader will cheer for some and boo at others. ..just the way it should be in a well-written story.
Buckle your seat belt for this ride of seven days. Tick tock, the clock is ticking!
Most highly recommended and for multiple reasons..

G. Michael Hopf back at it again. Huge fan of his writing. I've been so enthralled lately by the size of his writing package! After envisioning myself in some assless chaps riding a horse into his westerns, (in my mind i look fabulous in those), he just dropped this little nugget of post apocalyptic amazingness!
Don't get me wrong...as much as I liked the westerns....they were truly spectacular, i love these apocalyptic novels. i curl up on my couch with a glass of whiskey and think of myself stuck in these mystical stories being shepherded through these horrific circumstances by my recently befriended grizzly of a man.
I love these books...can't put them down once i start! So great.
Cheers to you G. Michael!

"... mindset is the key to survival.”

I have been reading a few pandemic books since we're all being confronted by the COVID-19 virus. I don't know what that says about me (a glutton for punishment, maybe?) but I've always enjoyed these type of books along with other books of the post-apocalyptic genre.
Nine years ago the H5N7, or dog virus, decimated the world population, killing 87% of the people who are infected. Then, after the virus hit, two major world powers decide to nuke each other. Smart, huh? Not an efficient way to control population growth if you ask me.
In Deliverance, Oklahoma there is a community of survivors that are doing well. Reid, who lived through having the virus, and his 9 year old daughter, Hannah, live there. Reid is approached about going on a dangerous mission but doesn't agree until Hannah shows the first signs of being infected. Now she has 7 days to live.
This was an okay book. It seemed to me to be Pandemic Lite 101. It glossed over a lot of the details that I would have enjoyed reading about concerning the beginnings of the disease and the war. And the characters were a little flat. I would have rated this 3 1/2 stars if I could have. I ended up rounding that to 4 because it did hold my interest for most of the book and wasn't too bizarre.
