Kelly, you have done it again! Keep on writing girl! LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL YOUR BOOKS . Just loved this book, so many twists! Can't wait to read the rest of this series, hope you don't keep us waiting too long for the next installment!
Total book hangover. Not even sure I can write this review. But here goes. Kelly St Clare really knows how to drag multiple emotions out of you all at once. Quite often complicated and/or conflicting emotions. This whole book was a series of tugs on my heart, mixed with wit and humour that made it so enjoyable to read. I loved the characters, even when I disliked them on someone’s behalf. The world was elaborate, layered and interesting. Andie losing her mother and discovering the debt that had now passed to her, was just the tip of the iceberg of revelations she uncovers. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a big dose of action adventure and intrigue with their paranormal romance.
Then why not five stars? Some of the decisions the lead characters make are unfathomable to me, other than they force the plot in a single direction. Other than those Umm, Why??? moments, it was a really enjoyable read. Two strong protagonists in a clash of wills and hormones. It has enough light humour, action, romantic tension and improbable plot to be fun.
Fur aside, the improbable comes from the idea that the two sides have been in a formal weekly battle of 5 Plots (industries) for centuries (winning side gets that industry until they loose it in a battle) yet have maintained a balance(ish) that entire time? The chance of that is pretty slim. There were a few other things that belayed belief, but I can‘t mention with major spoilers.
So long as daft decisions and unlikely statistics don’t bother you, then this book was excellent. I will definitely be getting the next in the series when it becomes available.
“Do you need help with anything else as you settle into the valley?” Some wood. I don’t have a fireplace, but I’ll watch you cut it.
Total vibe.
In this book we are taken back to the supernatural battle world leaving behind vampires for ware wolves and in true Kelly st Clare style what could be a tired genre just isn’t. It’s original, it’s sexy and it’s drama. And it’s freaking funny. The wit and jokes are always glorious to behold in Kelly’s books. Love. It. In this book the game is laser tag and it’s of epic proportions. Exceptional in its creativity. You need this book. Im already hanging for book 2. And no doubt book 3!!!
Andie didn't expect to open a can of worms when her mother died. The search for answers brought her to the small town of Deception Valley where the Thanas were well known. She finds herself on their doorstep and in the middle of a game of laser tag.
Alarick is the mysterious owner of The Dens, a bar in the centre of town. He crosses paths with Andie when she starts busking outside and captivates a crowd with her music.
As the history of town unfolds, she finds herself in a precarious position between the Thanas and the Luthers.
There's sadness, humour and mystery as you read Shifter Wars and it will have you longing for the next book in this series!
What an amazing find. A supernatural 'laser tag' game, a headstrong male lead character (love, love Alarick), an ambitious plot - which the author pulled together well until that ending. I really enjoyed that totally hilarious scene too. The author is getting better at these supernatural battles.
I think this series will be better than Vampire Wars, which I also enjoyed. I found the romance believable and endearing and there are enough twists to keep you turning the pages well into the night. Bring on book two !
I'm not actually a big fan of wolf shifters as I don't like insta-love and I find that a lot of wolf shifter books (although not all) contain that. I like my books to have the push and pull of a tough romance, particularly where one party hates the other (enemies to lovers is one of my favourites) and a slow burn romance with plenty of tension and heat filled moments along the way. And you know what, Shifter Wars had all of those things I love in it. It was full of heat filled tension and plenty of push and pull between the two main characters with a brilliant story built in to and some really good side characters, whether they be good or bad. It also had a mystery that is slowly being unravelled for us through this book and will continue throughout all the books I'm sure.
Andie, as the lead character was one that I liked straight away. She was down to earth and natural. I loved that she played the Saxophone and I felt I was there listening to her play in each scene she played it in. There was actually quite a focus on music in this book and I did actually find myself googling some of the songs I didn't know to read the lyrics. I'm not going to say anything about the main male character as I feel it may be spoilerish, however I will say he is *swoonsome* and there were some points I was wishing I was in Andie's place!
I thought that the whole story was really well built and there were some side characters whom I particularly loved. I also loved the intracicies of the game they are playing too (in case you aren't aware this is part of the Supernatural Battle World of which the author has written another series in, you don't need to have read those books to read this though as it's completely separate from this one but I recommend those too).
Overall this book definitely gets five stars from me. I loved and enjoyed every part of it and read it all in pretty much one sitting (sadly I did have other people interrupting me and this is one of those books where I just wanted to shut myself away and read it). I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next one.
Shifter Wars is the first book in Kelly St Clare's Supernatural Battle World and we've moved away from the Vampires and onto the Wolves! This time, the game is a mad version of "laser tag" between two warring factions where they battle for territory.
The main character (Andie) moves to the town where the book is based after her Mum passes away and whilst she's going through her Mums things finds a link to the town she grew up in. With nothing to lose the Andie impulsively buys a car and goes to see what she can learn about her Mum.
She ends up getting a job in a bar working for Alarick (my new book boyfriend) and as she finds her family get sucked into the battle but not without getting more involved with Alarick.
I loved how her cousin Rhona is introduced to us with others saying she's a bit prickly and bitchy but then Andie and her get on like a house on fire after a bumpy start.
Genuinely spat my coffee out laughing when one of the characters Wade says "Chimp tits"
It ends like all of Kelly St Clare's books do... Leaving me begging for more! I can't wait until the next one is out.
I love wolf shifter stories and when this author announced she was writing this series I was so freaking excited!!!!! This book is everything I hoped for and more, this author always builds worlds with mind blowing detail and layers that just pull you into the story with characters who are extremely well written. Cannot wait for more. 5 stars ❤️

A very interesting twist on the whole werewolf / fated mates trope. The FMC sets out to uncover the secrets of her mother's past and receives more questions than answers. Twist at the end was completely unexpected and makes me glad the the next book is already out!
