I visit my friend pretty much daily so often use the TV and see it in action. My friend is a NZ rugby and cricket fanatic, and the idea behind getting this was so she would enjoy her games more on a bigger, sharper screen.
I'm constantly taken aback how good this screen looks. No doubt a top name brand may be better, but for the money this does very well in my opinion.
The settings menu is pretty basic but that is to be expected.
The remote is terrible. Very small and cheap with small hard buttons, rubbery button press and iffy reliability.
The 3 hdmi inputs are in the most ridiculous place at the bottom underneath the screen and they are upward connected. You have to either fit the cables before you lift the tv into place, or do it by feel with just enough space to awkwardly get your hand under it. It's very frustrating and totally stupid design.
The final criticism is to do with the chromecast. It's too intrusive imo. When setting up the TV for the first time you have to set up the chromecast first and then do the usual channel search etc. The TV always defaults to chromecast when it turns on so then you have to switch the input to TV. Annoying.
This isn't a criticism, more an observation. When setting up the Foxtel IO4 with it I was unable to get HD on the Foxtel, which would constantly advise that either the TV or cable was unsuitable for Foxtel HD. The solution to this turned out to be switching the TV in the menu to the later hdmi protocol from the earlier one. By recall 1.5 to 2. That fixed the issue immediately as the IQ4 uses the later protocol.
However given the overall aim this TV has provided exceptional value and my friend is very, very pleased with it, as am I.
It's worth mentioning that if you register it on the Soniq website the warranty is extended from one year to three years.
it's definitely Value for money at the price point of $350 as far as quality and screen size is concerned. Not good value if it's full price ☠️🙅♂️
Built in Chromecast software is NOT updated nor is it updatable.
Not a problem for now when it comes to Netflix, screen casting and Stan etc. Amazon prime video however doesn NOT WORK!
Confirmed with manufacturers that it is impossible to update.
HOPEFULLY AMAZON will make prime video compatable with older Chromecast devices otherwise this is just a for netfilx and YouTube 😂
Also YouTube videos without great after production value...basically all your favourite vloggers, will be slightly out of sync.. no way to fix the problem at all unless you just close your eyes...or not look at people's mouths 😂🙏
I got this to hook up my XB1 X & PS4 Pro so that the wife can use the main TV for netflix, prime video, Stan etc. I almost got a heart attack when out of the box I couldn't change the display settings on the Xbox or the PS4 to 4K and it defaulted to 1080p which looks atrocious on this TV. The way to fix this is to go into the menu and go to options (the cog) and adjust the HDMI EDID from 1.4 to 2.0. I don't know why it defaults to 1.4 but once you change it your console or other device should automatically adjust up to 4K.
Other than that hiccup very happy with this as a secondary TV and it was hot price at $349 (plus all the shopback cashback you can get extra dollars off!) get this only if it's going to be a second TV don't get this if you want a good main and spend the extra money on a Samsung or LG because you'll thank yourself.
We have gone through two of these TVs (we got a replacement that was defective in exactly the same way) and it has been horrendous trying to deal with Soniq.
Do yourself a massive favour and STEER CLEAR of this brand. The only positive I can glean from this experience may be to prevent others from making the same mistake.
An add on was that if you go to Soniq's website, you could register your product for a 3 year warranty.
When the TV first arrived it had missing parts & the software was buggy; they sent me another tv which had all the parts & mostly works.
Amazon Prime however doesn't stream to the built in chromecast because the firmware is out of date.
The company has said they don't update the firmware & it will never update.
I'm assuming after some unknown period other streaming apps will stop working with it as they aren't likely to permanently support old firmware versions.
I've had to buy an external chromecast for the screen which completely defeats the purpose in buying a smart screen.
Moreover, the google cast works fine with YouTube and Netflix, sometimes it would be failed and requires re-powered actions of the TV. For this price it is okay.
